Dolly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from India. I have come to US after I got married. I studied Bachelor’s in Computer Science in India. When I can, I wanted to pursue something different. I had no cooking or baking experience at all what so ever. Back in my time growing up ovens are only for pizza and pastries. I had no prior knowledge about how to use it or work it.
It became an interesting equipment to explore. That’s how I ended up loving baking! Another reason I loved it also because of the fact that I could mix anything quickly and pop it in the oven and it’s done in no time. hahahahha! But anyway, that’s how my interest in baking has evolved. Little I knew back then that baking takes a lot of patience. I love what I do now and won’t trade it for anything.
Has it been a smooth road?
I have worked for some known local bakery for few years. That was an awesome experience! I love having the flexibility of being a mom for my two wonderful girls (11 & 7), a wife and a small scale business owner. I have started my company officially almost two years ago. I have done ok for being a new bee in the field. I’m ready to take it up a notch a bit for next year. I have always struggled in the ways to reach out to people or potential bride or where to market or how to market without breaking an arm and a leg.

I own Dolly’s Sweet Sensations in Katy, Texas. I’m professionally trained Pastry Chef / Cake Designer. I got my Associate Degree in Baking & Pastry Arts here in Houston Community College in Houston, Texas. I specialize in Wedding Cakes, Chocolate Truffles, Dessert Bars and more….. What am I known for? In my view, everyone can bake a cake with or without an experience. Most of the time, what I have heard back from my clients about what they thought about the experience working with me are two things.
1. Customer Service
2. How moist and light my cakes and fillings are.
What am I most proud as a company? I’m proud of myself because of few things below:
1. I get to do things with my girls when they need me. Like taking them to activities, paying attention to them on everyday basis. I’m home when they come home. Basically, what a stay at home mom duties. I couldn’t compromise that for anything.
2. I am proud to be able to support my husband who travels for work on weekly basis.
3. I’m proud of managing the above most important things in my life and able to do something for myself. Indulge myself into being creative in my field.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
