Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Broussard.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started singing when I was two years of age. My mother saw that I could catch little things in songs and noticed that I had a gift. As I grew older, I started singing in our former church’s youth choir, leading the song “His eye is on the sparrow”. I think almost every youth Sunday that came around, I pretty much sang that song, lol! My mother would also sign me up for competitions around the Houston area. Like this one time, I auditioned to do the Oscar Meyer Wiener commercial theme song, which I think was held in a Kroger’s parking lot somewhere, I don’t know, lol! Of course, because I am still an adolescent, I began doing adolescent things that got me into a bit of trouble to the point where we ended up leaving our former church. The word of God says in Romans 8:28 that “All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose.”
So, when we left the church, I immediately felt as if everything was my fault because that was the church my mother grew up in. That was the church I was born into, you know? Then, we started trying to find a church home, and I remember us going to two churches, at one of the churches I was like, “Mom I’m not joining this church with you if this is where you decide to worship”. Even then as a teenager, I had the discernment enough to know that, something there wasn’t right. So, we ended up going to Windsor Village United Methodist Church one Sunday, and I remember Pastor Caldwell preaching, almost as if he was preaching my life’s story at the time, then he opened up the doors of the church, and before I knew it I was walking down the aisle to join, and my mom, little sister and baby brother followed suit. And from there is where I learned the value of praise and worship, and how to access the Lord through prayer, and a host of other tools that have equipped me for where I am today as a worship leader that travels to minister the gospel through song.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely NOT been a smooth road. I was 14 years old when we made our transition to Windsor Village UMC, so of course, I still had a lot of learning to do. I found myself struggling in school because I wasn’t confident in who God made me to be. I found myself struggling with self-esteem issues, so much so that I would sleep with people just because they told me I was pretty and gave me a little attention because I didn’t understand who I was in Christ. I had a baby out of wedlock. I struggled to take care of that baby for a little while all because of the bad decisions I made.
The advice I would give to other young girls, young adult women, any woman out there would be to read about who/what God calls you. What He thinks about you. How much He loves and cherishes you before you make a decision that could alter your life. My mother says it like this “Don’t make a permanent decision off of temporary emotions.” Allow what God has said about you, to help you set boundaries and goals for yourself regarding who you are, and your future.
We’d love to hear more about Krystal Broussard Ministries.
I am the youth worship leader at Windsor Village UMC. Outbreak Youth Ministries stand up, lol! I also travel, when invited of course, to other churches, or conferences, or wherever the Lord opens a door, to do worship. I am currently working on my first ever solo project. It’s a little mind-blowing and scary all at the same time. I mean I’ve been featured on other people’s records and things of that nature, but for this to be my own project; it’s mind-boggling.
You ask what I’m most proud of, I would have to say being able to teach the youth that I minister with every Sunday. Being able to impart in them the things of God. Having the opportunity to change a life for the better. We really don’t realize just how much these youth go through on a daily basis. Yet we wonder, how they get ahold of guns, and they are committing crimes or suicide. These babies are hurting and need people to give them guidance, mentorship, and love!
What sets me apart from others, would be the fact that God told me I was set apart in his word 1 Peter 2:9.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Absolutely! I believe, that God is a God of divine order. So, everything that has happened in my life, has taught me lessons that I can take with me on this journey to where I’m headed. If I wouldn’t have gotten myself into the trouble I did, I don’t believe I would be as close to my destiny as I am right now.
