Meet Paulette Aibinuomo of Afro Angel Hair Care in Houston Galleria Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulette Aibinuomo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At a young age, my father recognized my obsession with hair. I remember at the age of 3 how I would play in his soft afro (technically my first client). During my junior and senior years in high school, I would take cosmetology classes in hope to become a hairstylist. In my senior year of high school, my father encouraged me to make my own products by taking me to a haircare production factory that a friend of his owned near Galveston.

Fast forward… I was working for a financial institution in Arlington, Texas starting in 2007. I sported an afro around the time that going natural started booming. My hair encouraged some of my other co workers into going natural. At the time, there wasn’t a plethora of natural hair care products out there, so with a little research and experimentation, I decided to make my own products. I began making concoctions in my own kitchen and shared it with my co-workers. After work, some of my co workers would come to my house so I could care for their hair. One particular co-worker called me an Angel for taking time to educate her on caring for her natural hair. In 2009, I moved back to my original home in Houston, Texas. My co-workers in Arlington would call me asking if they could pay me if I shipped my products out to them. I sat at home thinking of the possibilities of how this could be a business venture for me. In September 2009, Afro Angel Hair Care was born and became an established business. I created a website where my customers could order online. Very soon my products would ship from Texas to California, New York, Florida, Oklahoma, Chicago and even internationally to Nigeria.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was certainly an unexpected blessing to keep up with orders coming from different states after I launched my website… As any human, I started to self-doubt myself thinking I was over my head and wanted to stick to working corporate, BUT GOD had a bigger plan and a dream that He wouldn’t let die. Moving around from one corporate job to another, I still felt uneasy about leaving my dreams. By the encouragement from friends and family, I relaunched my business and began selling at local trade and hair shows in Texas. I would be asked to share my testimony at events and did a couple of speaking engagements. It’s inevitable that we evolve as people and want to do better if we desire it. It’s been almost ten years since I’ve been formulating on making better products. My dreams have become more vivid with the help of my deceased father. I still remember his beautiful hair that was passed down to me. I thank God for my mother who keeps reminding me to never let your dreams die no matter what.

At Afro Angel Hair Care, we are dedicated to helping people take care of their natural hair without any hassle. For us, it is not just about making your tresses look beautiful and healthy. We want you to be able to care for your natural hair with a Heavenly experience.

Paulette Aibinuomo is a Licensed Natural Hairstylist located in Houston, Texas. She completed her cosmetology courses at Cypress Fairbanks High School in 1998. Soon after she pursued her bachelor’s degree in Consumer Science and Merchandising at The University of Houston where she graduated December 2004. She’s always had a love for hair care since a young age and wants to share her passion out to the world. She believes that caring for natural should not be a burden but a pleasurable experience. That drive helped her creativity by mixing organic ingredients at home to share with her colleagues, family and friends. Not only does she want to encourage others to enjoy their hair but to appreciate the beauty in their God-given natural crown.

We want our customers to see their beauty with their natural hair by making ph balanced products that don’t go against the chemistry of their hair strands. Our products bring instant softness, manageability and luster. There’s no build-up with our products, just clean results.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
A couple of years back, I decided to leave corporate and focus on becoming a hairstylist. It was scary to take that leap of faith but I took my state board exam after being out of cosmetology school for over 15 years and passed. I worked at different hair salons in Houston and then decided to branch out on my own. I’m currently working in my own booth at A Man’s Touch Salon owned by Jeff James in the Galleria area.

After a three year hiatus, I decided to relaunch Afro Angel Hair Care by utilizing a bigger production, revamping my logo, website and adding more items to the line.
