Meet Trinity Johnston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trinity Johnston.

Trinity, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started acting in Austin, TX when I was five years old and haven’t stopped. My passion for musical theater, TV, and film has earned me a Best Actress Award through the Austin 48hr Film Project and Best Young Adult Actress Award from Broadway World Austin for my role as Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden.  Last December I performed in my first Equity Musical Production at ZACH Theater. I played the role of Fan in A Christmas Carol.

I have a reoccurring role on a popular YouTube channel called New Sky Kids which has over 2 million subscribers. I have filmed over 25 episodes for the New Sky Kids and enjoy being able to play multiple comedy roles.

I just completed my 16th short film in Austin. I appreciate the opportunity to play a variety of characters, but my favorite type is when I get to dig deep and film an intense scene. This is why I absolutely loved playing my latest role in Take Me Home because I was able to explore multiple levels with the character.

My ultimate goal is to go to LA Film School and get a BS in Film Production and Directing. I love every aspect of film making and I see myself acting as well as directing when I am older. My passion and determination drive me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The acting industry is not a smooth road. There is never a guarantee, no matter how hard you work. When I was eight, I got an agent and manager pretty quickly and started auditioning for huge projects like Disney, Nickelodeon and feature films with big name actors. We set up a backdrop with lights and I bought a nice camera so I could film my auditions from home. I train with an acting coach before every audition and constantly work on growing as an actor. It takes a ton of time and energy to be in this business. I don’t know if people truly understand how much time and energy actors put into their craft. I have done 225 auditions now, but still haven’t gotten my break. That’s why I have to celebrate the smaller successes. I have been in 16 amazing short films and several theater productions here in Austin. It keeps me going because I love the art. I get a kick out of being on set or a stage and enjoy hanging out with the cast and crew. I just love it. I feel comfortable…like this is where I’m supposed to be. This is why I keep moving forward on this journey.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am proud of many projects I have done, but I have two favorites.

When I was eight, I auditioned for the role of Alice in Alice in Wonderland at a professional theater in Austin. They were looking for two 14 years old girls to double-cast because it was a demanding role and they needed someone with maturity. I ended up being one of the girls they cast because the director believed in me and said she loved my spunky attitude and energy. She felt like I could handle the challenge and be a strong lead. I had 52 shows in over three months and I ended up switching to a private school in order to make the schedule work. This role was the start of my acting career and helped me grow leaps and bounds as a performer. I’ll be forever grateful to the director for believing in me.

My other project that I’m super proud of is my latest short film called Take Me Home. I was engaged in this project from the beginning. I brainstormed the storyline with a few others, was a part of the decision making and scheduling, worked closely with the director and ended up using some of my own money to fund the project which made me a producer. Now we are screening the film at a huge theater in Austin to 198 people. It’s an amazing feeling to be involved throughout the entire process.

What were you like growing up?
I always love to be busy…started when I was young. My mom put me in about every activity you could think of doing. I played soccer, took swimming, gymnastics, and dance lessons, and was in my first local play when I was five years old. I loved being around people. I didn’t care if they were young or old. I think since I’m an only child I wanted to hang out with anyone. I like trying new things, but when I did my first play I knew wanted to keep acting for sure! I still play soccer, started when I was three years old. Now, I play on a Division 1 competitive team and we play year-round. Our team won the State Cup last season. I enjoy sports and started playing volleyball this year. My schedule is crazy, but I like it that way.
