Meet Josh Loera of Time Machine Creative in Southwest (Near NRG Stadium)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Loera.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up drawing and creating. My father and his uncle had an interest and passed it on to me at a young age. My dad got me my first sketch pad at the age of roughly five years old. Over the years since, I’d get more drawings/sketch pads and I’ve tried to save as many as I could.

By the time I’m heading to college, my time put toward creativity had dropped off to focus more on grades and school hoping that I’d get back into it eventually. After five years. I graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering. Once I graduated and moved to Houston for “The Job”, I finally decided to put my energy during my free-time toward practicing again.

Since then, I’ve been able to build my techniques and make some sales, but my main goal is to continue to improve. When I created the name “Time Machine Creative” I was thinking about a trip back home during which I was able to flip through that first sketchbook and I was immediately transported back to 1997 drawing in that little book.

That being said, not only can Art transport you to a moment in the past, but it can also inspire what is to come. Art has always preceded science/technology, and I think that’s an important outlook for my art journey.

Although I’m mostly focused on creating art (drawings/paintings/digital) I hope to expand to a full creative services company one day.

Has it been a smooth road?
As many artists will tell you, creating art and working to improve on those skills can be a mentally/emotionally exhausting process. A creator can really start to tear at him/herself in the pursuit of perfection. That being said, it’s important to create that space and time for yourself to “make bad art”.

Besides that, actually finding the time outside of a full-time job to work on commissions/pieces/posts, etc. can be extremely hard but it takes focus.

That being said, this is still my side Hustle and building a clientele and a following has been slow and will always be a continuous effort/struggle for the time-being. I have some plans for content going forward that I am excited to work on that I hope others might get excited about as well.

Please tell us more about your art.
I am an Artist/Creative. I do commission pieces, prints, as well as I sell original works. As I am building my credibility and skillset, I am focusing on what I can do on my own (drawings/painting/digital art). I’ve done a lot of portraits and automotive “realism” but I’ve branched out into other styles and I’m open to try new things if a client wanted to give me a shot at it.

What I’m proud of is that I’ve managed to connect with people with some of my creative visions without much traditional training.

What sets me apart is that my willingness to learn and to empathize with a client to work toward and execute a vision. My background in Engineering/Technical Sales sets me apart as well because it’s garnered a solution based outlook towards client’s needs.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I grew up in a time where “STEM” was a big promotion at school, on TV, etc. I think the “STEAM” movement is picking up… steam! and rightfully so, I don’t think technology/innovation is worth it unless art and design are involved.

I think we’ll see more and more crossovers between artists, engineers, scientists, and designers. I think this could be the way that we (humans) will most effectively tackle the issues of our time (climate change, poverty, human rights, etc.)
