Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronald Mayes.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ronald. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started acting at a very early age back in elementary school. We would have the seasonal stage plays portraying Jesus either at Christmas, Easter, and even some in the springtime. It has been a long journey getting here. I moved to Houston from Fort Wayne, IN.
Back in 2010, when the job market was not great in the Midwest. I really started doing a lot of different things towards acting. Such as stage plays with director James Hudson. From there, I started working with my good friend Reggie’s Haynes on his YouTube projects. I also was a background actor in a few shows on Amazon prime and also Abc.
Flash forward to 2019: I was working in Houston as an at home agent for a giant tech company. I then decided it’s time for me to actually follow my dreams and quit my day job and jump into the entertainment industry. I am now residing in L.A. working for NBC Universal as a scareactor for Halloween horror nights at universal studios in Hollywood.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road was not always smooth there were a few bumps. Of course, like anything, there will always be some sort of roadblocks getting in the way. The main roadblock was getting out of my head and telling myself I could do it instead of you will never make it. I was my own worst enemy, but once I learned more about myself and who I am it made life and pursuing my acting career so much easier.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actor, producer, director, cameraman, and much much more. I pride myself on always wanting to learn more about everything especially the entertainment industry. I am proud of myself for making the trip to L.A. it’s been a wonderful experience that I would have never even felt if I would’ve just followed the path that I was on already.
The thing that sets me apart from everyone else is if I say I’m going to do something, I make it happen. I don’t just sit around and wait for the opportunity to be handed to me. I get up and take it and succeed while doing it. Now, if I do fail then I get back up again and try try again.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had the chance to start over and do it differently, I would start early. I wish I would have started acting professionally at an earlier age because my career would be at a different peak right now.
