Meet Sierra Reed of Sierra’s Southern Sweets in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Reed.

Sierra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am the creator of Sierra’s Southern Sweets. I sell cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, cake pops, and more. I don’t sell cakes even though I would like to expand to cakes in 2020.

I graduated from Texas Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in business management. Growing up, I loved to bake and cook. My parents bought me an Easy Baked Oven when I was eight and I baked every recipe in one night. Standing next to my Grandmother and she would mix the custard for the Banana pudding, watching everything being handled with love and respect for the ingredients. I know it sounds weird but that’s what made me fall in love with creating desserts.

Also, I wanted to cheer in High School and My dad and I didn’t have the money. He told me I Had to find a job and work for it. So, I babysit all the neighborhood kids and I had bake sales in front of my dad’s job. Until I raised enough money to cheer. Baking goods has always made me some type of funds so I just thought why not just try it. And it started. People started liking it and ordering.

Things are only going up from here. Just wait and see.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Three Huge Obstacles

1. Keep your Day Job! And work on your business too. I quit my job and then started. That was a terrible mistake. I should have kept it to sponsor my dreams. I could have saved the money first. I just jumped on Faith with the bare minimum of materials. Literally just a dollar and a dream. Plan it out now! Write it down!!! Talk about it like it has already happened!

2. Anxiety is real! Take care of yourself !!!! You need a day off and a rest day too. It will all be there tomorrow!

3. Never adjust your prices to fit other’s pockets. Just don’t. Believe in yourself like you want people to believe in you.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sierra’s Southern Sweets – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Sierra Southern Sweets makes cupcakes, cupcake jars, cake pops, funnel cake cupcakes, Sweet Potato Pie Cupcakes, and the list goes on and On. I incorporated my love for sweets and my love for music with my southern upbringing and created Sierra’s Southern Sweets.

I’m known for my creativity. Anyone can make cupcakes. However, I am creating cupcakes mixed with some of your favorite desserts.

I think the fact I only specialize in cupcakes sets me apart from other crowds. It’s Southern. Who doesn’t love a taste from the South?

I am proud of me for not giving up. I wanted to bad but I couldn’t. I believe in this dream too much to give up and now it’s becoming a reality.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m going to expand. I think that’s all I can share.
