Meet Gerardo Lopez and Loryn Arcos of GLO Fotografia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerardo Lopez and Loryn Arcos.

Gerardo and Loryn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Loryn: Our story started when we started dating in 2014, everywhere we went we were either snapping photos or videos. It was just a hobby at first but grew into something more when people would ask us to take photos for certain moments. Solely, Gerardo was the one who knew more things about the photography world, I slowly started to pick it up. We officially went live as GLO at the end of 2016. GLO is a mesh of our nicknames, G for Gerardo and LO for Loryn! With the support from each other, family and friends we are where we are today!

Has it been a smooth road?
Gerardo: Definitely not a smooth road! We’ve faced some challenges and we’ve also second-guessed if we were doing the right thing by starting a business. (Clearly, we don’t think that way anymore!) There’s way more than just taking photos, there’s the whole business aspect behind it. Keeping up with emails, making sure we meet our deadlines, tracking payments and so forth. It has been a very big learning curve and we are still learning and plan to keep doing so. I work full time at Memorial Hermann, so my schedule varies every week and Loryn goes to University of Houston full time. In between both of our schedules, lining them up and trying to include time for ourselves, it can sometimes get difficult, but we manage to keep it under control!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the GLO Fotografia story. Tell us more about the business.
Loryn: Our company is GLO Fotografia, we specialize in family and wedding photography. We have done maternity, engagements, birthday sessions, we shoot events (corporate, birthdays, baby showers, baptisms… everything!) and weddings! We also offer a photo booth! Basically, we know that pictures are meant to last forever. When your memory starts to fade, we feel that you can look back at a photo and remember what was happening on that day. It’s a special way to connect with your past. Our IG bio says, “Let’s capture your special moments and turn them into forever memories that will be cherished always” and we mean that! We truly believe that photos are so important. I think what sets us apart is just our love of taking photos, it’s never been about the money. At that, we find ourselves charging way less than photographers around us, and not because we don’t feel like we aren’t worth the extra money, but because we know that getting photos taken isn’t a cheap expense. We don’t want to be too expensive for a family who’s never had their photos taken before, we want to be affordable yet still offer great quality. We are very humble people, we love to have fun and make jokes and make great relationships with our clients.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Gerardo: We definitely still see ourselves doing photography! We hope to open a home studio or warehouse studio in the future! It is for sure on our vision board. Our goal is to keep learning, I don’t think the learning will ever stop, nor do we want it to. Every year since we’ve started we have changed and invested into our business to offer the best that we can to our clients. Being that technology is always evolving we know that the photography world is only growing, we hope to one day use our knowledge to help others as others have helped us.
