Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Acosta.
Kathy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career working for a boutique oil & gas investment bank. I started doing small events within the company; happy hours, summer intern events, holiday parties, etc. I loved doing events and always wanted to do bigger and better ones! When I left that company, I continued to work in oil & gas, but that’s when the market started going down and I unfortunately got laid off from the company that I left for. I had a few months to think about what I wanted to do but wasn’t completely sold on being an event planner (although I loved it). I started helping friends plan parties and always found myself renting linens, tables, décor, etc. I jokingly mentioned to my mother (who now helps me run Lavish Linens) that I should start a linen rental company. She mentioned that we had a family friend who was selling her linen company! I immediately contacted our family friend and after ending the conversation, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to purchase the company from her. I purchased the company in April 2015, changed the name, added to the current inventory, hosted an open house and that was the beginning of Lavish Linens!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is never a smooth road…especially in the beginning. We went almost a year in business and had only done about 5 events. I started panicking and thought I made a huge mistake in this investment. Some of the struggles we incurred were getting our name out there and getting event planners to trust us and our work. Event planners like to use vendors that they’ve used for years and are rarely open to using new vendors. Luckily, we met an event planner that gave us the opportunity to work with her and we are so thankful that she did!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lavish Linens – what should we know?
Lavish Linens is a luxury linen rental boutique. We provide table linens, napkins, chargers and chair treatments for any size event. Our inventory is very unique and we’re proud to say that it is what sets us apart from other linen vendors. We carry a lot of unique fabrics that you don’t see a lot of.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We go above and beyond for our clients to create the best experience for them. If we don’t have something that our client wants, we will find it! We have an amazing team that wants to create the perfect event for the client we do (almost) anything to make it happen. 🙂
