Meet Micah Gholston of iKouture Fashions in Galleria Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Gholston.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Micah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a child, I have always had a love for fashion. I would often play dress up in my grandmother’s high heels and accessories. My family always dressed me in dainty dresses and bows which is where I believe my love for fashion originated. As I grew, I began to love different fabrics and patterns. Color blocking has always been one my favorite styles. In addition, I was also awarded Best Dressed Female 2013 at my alma mater Grambling State University.

I would often journal about owning an online boutique, but I allowed my uncertainties and fears to hold me back. After working in my professional career as a Medical Social Worker for 2 1/2 years, I began to feel like I was settling. I knew that I was suppressing my ambition and I began to feel incomplete. It wasn’t until early 2019 that I decided to take the risk and start my own business.

On March 31, 2019, I had the official launch of my website/online boutique in honor of my deceased mother and daughter. The amount of support that I received that day was unbelievable.

I’m pleased to say that things have been falling into place ever since and my business is rapidly growing. iKouture Fashions has participated in 6 pop-shops locally and out of state, and hosted a Boot Camp in my hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

iKouture Fashions isn’t just a boutique, it’s a brand. A brand that promotes self-love, healthy living, positive thinking, and freedom of expression through fashion.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, no is has not always been a smooth road. Unfortunately, I learned early in my entrepreneurship journey that everyone is not happy for your success. I learned the importance of making sure things are in place on the business side of things because people can be very cruel. Another struggle that I have encountered along the way has been finding balance between being a business owner and a full-time employee.

iKouture Fashions – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
iKouture Fashions is an online boutique based out of Houston, Texas. The name derives from my sorority line name “Klassy Kouture”. Our motto is “Where Style Meets Ambition” and our mission is to provide a platform for women to express themselves freely through fashion.

iKouture Fashions prides itself on offering affordable, on-trend styles catering to both young and middle-aged women. We adhere to the concept of “when you look good you feel good.” Our goal is to provide our customers with stylish clothing that will reflect the confidence that they feel internally. We also provide our customers with exceptional customer service, fast-shipping, and convenience. We have a pick-up/delivery option available to our customers that allows them to shop at their own leisure.

In my opinion, what sets us apart from other boutiques is our ability to be personable and accommodating. People like to spend their money and feel appreciated. We do our best to provide customers with a shopping experience that they can feel good about.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In my opinion, success is defined as mastering the art of finding your purpose and using your purpose to help and uplift someone else. Success is working hard to achieve a goal and actually achieving that goal. Success is doing whatever makes you happy and gives you peace. Success is having the privilege to enjoy the fruits of your labor. And lastly, success is having the ability to put others in positions to be able to create a better life for themselves and their family.
