Today we’d like to introduce you to Trey Hall.
Trey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I was fortunate to have parents who both enjoyed music from all types of genres. I was introduced to so many artists, new and old, on a regular basis. Especially from my father, who loves nothing more than cranking up his stereo and browsing his collection for what to play next. He’s his own favorite DJ!
Music has had influence in almost every facet of my life. All of my best relationships have strong roots in music. In my teenage years, I was in the school choir. I also had friends who taught me a little bit on the guitar and drums. Shortly after I moved to Houston, I made a friend who taught me how to produce music on a computer. The same friend who helped open the door to my first job as a DJ.
This is where my life changed and my future became more clear than ever! I made another great friend, who taught me the basics of mixing while inspiring me to follow my passion in this career. I consider him my mentor, and I’m still learning from him to this day as we strive to better ourselves and each other.
That is how In Style Events was born!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some obstacles along my path. Learning to DJ is not an easy route to overnight success. Neither is entrepreneurship. It takes lots of work, hustle, and time. It requires ongoing investments into equipment, technology, and education. It’s not very difficult to start. But It is difficult to stand out, and provide exceptional service.
It’s difficult to compete in this market. DJ’s play such an integral part in your guest’s experience and how they will remember your event. Yet, it is very common for us to be undervalued. Studies show that only 5% of a client’s budget is spent on their DJ. Most people don’t realize the amount of prep and labor that we put in before the event even starts. And with Houston being such a saturated market, it’s hard to blame the customer when they see so many competitors at such low prices.
I have overcome some personal challenges to get here as well. I’ve always been a pretty introverted person, so being the life of a party was never my strength. Just making simple announcements over a microphone was nerve-wracking in the beginning. I have also worked multiple jobs simultaneously over the years to fund my business and my investments. It was definitely stressful at times, but it’s always worth it when I feel the energy and reactions of a dance floor!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about In Style Events – what should we know?
In Style Events is a mobile DJ company. We provide DJ/MC services for all kinds of events. We also provide many other entertainment services such as photo booths and lighting.
We know the formula to a successful event, and it starts with planning! We’re here to help guide you through the entire process. We make sure that all the details are covered and that you have the confidence that we will execute our well-thought-out plan for your special event.
We create a fun and inviting atmosphere for you and your guests! Entertaining crowds of various ages and musical preferences is a very unique skill. We use our extensive knowledge of music and our ability to read the crowd, while seamlessly mixing music from all genres to get them moving!
Teamwork makes the dream work! There are often many actions taking place at once, to create those special moments and memories. Although our focus is on the music selection, we also work together with all your vendors to carry out your event flawlessly.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think my attention to detail is key to my success. I work very hard to perfect everything I do, which equates to a better overall experience for my clients!… I can also be my source of stress at times, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons lol.
