Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlon Stepp.
Marlon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started with a degree in Architecture and Business Management and have always loved designing and remodeling. I first started using my experience and talents to help out a lot of victims that were displaced from disasters such as hurricanes, fires and flooding. I would volunteer at local churches and other organizations that would assist in getting these victims back to normal. Seeing the effect on people’s lives once we arrive to help was amazing, but what was more amazingly was seeing these people step back into their home remodeled for the first time.
After working in the architecture and Energy Efficiency field for about 7+ years, I decided to start my own business. This has always been a huge dream and goal of mine to be able to help serve others with my ability to design and remodel. I started shadowing different architects and investors to help direct me on the path I am today. I am extremely passionate about helping people “step into their dream home”.
Today I have worked with investors and homeowners all over Houston and even some in Louisiana. My projects include: Completely renovated and designed kitchens and baths, flooring, 3D Architectural designs, Energy Analysis of homes and commercial buildings, Painting, and more.
I enjoy helping and assisting all my clients and I believe everyone should be treated with the same quality and respect no matter how big the project. I would say I owe a lot of my success to the fact that I treat my smaller projects just as I do my larger projects. I would like to grow my business into a Building / Development company. Creating neighborhoods and areas in the community that would produce connectivity, growth and home ownership.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road but I believe when you genuinely are passionate about something, those obstacles and bumps we encounter only help is grow. Some of my obstacles I’ve encounter is of course scheduling and reaching everyone that needs help. I wish I had more hands and hours in a day lol. But this is a huge blessing and I believe I am growing and managing my time more effectively.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Steps By Stepp, Design + Remodeling story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is a Design and Remodeling company. We specialize in residential buildings that are being upgraded.
I came up with the name of the company Steps by Stepp because of my last name being STEPP. and I designed the logo to appear to be steps but its actually multiple building under one roof symbolizing a community of homes that’s connected.

In my opinion, I think I am most proud of our flooring and design projects. I am very hands-on in everything that goes on in my company. I assure the best quality and customer service. I think one thing that separates us from others is our relationships that we build with clients. I think it’s important to have a reliable and trustworthy relationship and that’s something that we strive for all the time.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say luck as had a huge roll in my business but I have been blessed and fortunate to have surrounded myself with a great team that’s supports one another.
