Meet Shandelynn Hillard of Tea Time Therapy in North Houston and The Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shandelynn Hillard.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to Houston, TX in 2012 to pursue schooling at Our Lady of the Lake University. Once I finished school I had some trouble finding a job in the area so I decided to move back home to New Orleans. While in NOLA I worked for The Covenant House of New Orleans and a small company that provided therapy services to students at home and in school. In August of 2017, I officially got my license to practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and decided to move back to Houston. Once I returned back to Houston, I worked for two other companies, one of which I am still with. I currently am working to open Tea Time’s second location at 1000 FM 1960 on the Northside of Houston. Soon enough, I will be launching Tea Time’s Consult Group that will be utilized to help clients in various ways.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not always been smooth! It took me many tries before I passed my licensure exam, but I truly believe that the delay was steering me on the path that I am on.

Please tell us about Tea Time Therapy.
When deciding to open Tea Time Therapy, I envisioned a place of healing and empowerment through dialogue. At Tea Time Therapy I enjoy helping people become their best selves through discovery. Life can be challenging and sometimes even exhausting, I’m here to guide them through any obstacles they might face. My goal is to help them understand themselves while adding tools to their toolbox to better prepare for the future.

I specialize in depression, anxiety and my favorite life transitions. I also love to assist with other areas such as self-care and stress management, self-esteem, goal setting/accountability. I am known for individualized treatment plans for couples, individuals, and families to ensure that each client is getting what they need out of therapy.

I am most proud of this company because I see my dreams expanding each day. I am proof that things don’t come easy, but if you work hard at a dream they eventually will come true. My style of treatment and personality sets me apart from the rest. I understand what it is like to be on the opposite side of that sofa and understand that it takes a certain type of person to muster up the courage to “spill the tea” on their lives. I am a lover of stories and a giver of time, I am truly here to lend a hand.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Oh my gosh, I think I might have taken a business class or mentored under those that owned a business. There is so much to learn about being a business owner, it is not always glamorous, but so worth it!
