Today we’d like to introduce you to Benita Ledet.
Benita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been an assistant for executives in corporate America for over 30 years and I’ve seen so much hurt, disappointment, broken relationships, divorces, etc.
For some reason coworker’s, friends and family always seem to come to me for advice, encouragement, confidential conversations around their personal lives.
So after seeing so many women in particular come to work, put on their game face and cover their hurt up in makeup and smiles…I started praying for them and started bringing encouraging cd’s, affirmations, prayers and anything I could do to uplift them.
I knew how they felt because as an assistant, I took care of everybody business, took care of my household. Helped raise my siblings and bonus kids while becoming a mother to my son. As you continue to do this over a period of time, you lose yourself and you forget what it feels like to be loved and to receive love and to simply show yourself some love.
So I decided that I wanted to help these women so but I knew I had to invest in myself first to gain the knowledge and wisdom to help them.
I wanted to make sure that I was living the values of how I wanted to help them.
So I hired a mentor, business coach, public speaking coach went to a business school and decided to start a business that would help women heal themselves as well as share with other generations.
I have compassionate heart for hurting women and men but women in particularly because I’ve seen so much.
I decided to start a business and the name of the business is A Unique Heart because I have a unique heart for people.
The name of my first product is “Love in a Box”.
It is box of love and encouragement with a self-love journal that I created and other tools and resources to help women rediscover self-love, self-worth and self-actualization.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it was not a smooth road. I had many challenges with developing the business. There were so many times I wanted to give up. My business partner who help design all of my graphics, the box and etc. for the business wanted to give up as well because it seemed like it never was going to happen because we had so much going on. Even last year in 2018. I had a major health challenge to where the doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I was weak, I was severely dizzy. I had vertigo and could not drive for 6 to 8 months. Every doctor’s appointment I had and everywhere I had to go, I had to use Uber and Lyft. I spent somewhere between $6500 and $8500 just doctor appointments and not to mention the co-pays and additional medical expenses I accumulated during the journey.
I had just took this money from my savings to get ready to launch the business and ended up having to use it for transportation and medical expenses.
Then I began to get stressed out because I didn’t know how I was going to replace the money to launch.
Then when I returned back to work, I still couldn’t drive. I had major anxiety and the medicine they were giving me to treat me was making me drowsy. So again, there I was again paying $200-$300 dollars a week to get to work because I lived in Humble and worked in The Woodlands. It was a 70 mile round trip to and from work.
So after months and months of not knowing what was wrong, I eventually found a doctor who was able to give me a muscle relaxer to treat my TMJ issue. That was the cause of everything and it was a result of me being stressed out at work from me covering two positions for five months before I got sick. I was running myself raggedy at work, being a wife, a soccer mom, and trying to start a business.
So see I was the woman that didn’t take care of myself and took a major loss of time and money so this is why I am passionate about my product.
We are working on men boxes and other boxes specifically for other groups of people that need love. My dream is to share love, heal hearts one box, one heart at a time.
Your heart is the center of all of your emotions. When you are hurting from any specific situation, you don’t make clear decisions so if we begin to do the work of showing love to ourselves as well as others, we can bring love back into the world because we are seriously missing that right now.
Families need to be mended back together. Relationships and Marriages need to be restored. People need to be healed from divorces, regrets, domestic violence, grief, loneliness and etc.
There is definitely a need for this product “Love in a Box”.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the A Unique Heart story. Tell us more about the business.
The name of my business is A Unique Heart because I have a unique heart to help others heal from traumatic experiences.
I specialize in encouraging others by helping them rediscover self-love, self-worth and self-actualization.
I am known as the Love Guru, The Love Coach and the Heart Healer.
I am most proud of how the product is being received. I’ve had testimony from older woman as in the baby boomer generation and as young as Generation X. I’ve been able to help men as well. Mothers are journaling with their daughters. Young sons are watching their mother’s journal and being actively engaged and holding their mom’s accountable to have their journals with them. I received texts and pictures of people using their mugs while sipping their tea while meditating and they send me pictures of them wearing their heart necklace. It reminds them that somebody loves them and that means alot.
What sets me apart is love is my gift and my passion. Everything I do is done with love. I walk the walk and talk the talk. I’m a giver with a huge heart and I’ve been doing this since I was in middle school but didn’t know this was my calling and my purpose.
Lastly, I had to develop my confidence to speak in front of others and fully become the woman that God wanted me to be. Once I stop worrying about what others thought and started living for me, that’s when everything came into alignment for me.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would have to say I don’t focus on bad luck or bad energy. I’d like to say fiery darts can come your way but you have to know to be an overcomer no matter what. When you learn the word of God and stand on his word, you will see that he will make a way out of no way. Nothing is too hard for him.
I will have to say that good luck and being highly favored had played a major role in my life and business.
I develop meaningful mutual beneficial relationships that last for a lifetime because I only surround myself around people who care about me and want to see me succeed and vice versa for me with them.
When I see that someone is not in my life or business for my highest good, I immediately distance myself from them or cut them off.
I only have room for positive energy. Negative energy and I don’t get along. We don’t do well together‼
