Meet Sarah Britton and Adia Shabazz of Tokki Star in Uptown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Britton and Adia Shabazz.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our story began in 2015 when I (Sarah) posted on a kpop Facebook group asking if like-minded people wanted to start a YouTube channel with me. This is where I met Adia and a few others. Long story short- that venture of ours fell through. And even though it didn’t work out, we still wanted to find a way to bring kpop to Houston. This is when we started TokkiStar (Tokki: the Korean word for bunny and Star: another word for Idol.) a media outlet we wanted to be made for the fans, by the fans.

And throughout the years, we’ve achieved a lot. The success of our YouTube spawned our website Tokkistar.com which gave us a chance to dive into the world of journalism and be able to attend kpop concerts as press. We also took a leap of faith and started our own event planning company called Tokkidreams, where we create kpop events for Houston kpop fans of all ages.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every company has its ups and downs, and throughout the years we’ve had a lot. As we’ve gotten older, it’s been hard to find time to meet with one another due to our crazy schedules. But in the end, we always find a way to bring it back to 1:40 and get things together.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tokki Star – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Tokkistar is a media outlet/YouTube channel dedicated to bringing our viewers all the latest news and hot topics on their favorite Korean celebrities. Our followers span from all across the world, ranging from South Korea, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines and the United States. We specialize in doing interviews with kpop artists, local organizations in the Houston Kpop community, and creating relatable content for our fans. What sets us apart from other outlets is we aren’t always politically correct. We don’t walk on straight lines like most outlets do. While others stray away from talking about the flaws in the kpop community, we face them head on and aren’t afraid to call things out.

We’re still working on our achievements but at the moment we’re most proud of how we’ve been able to garner over 25k subscribers over the years.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
World domination!! Lol. At the moment, we hope to build upon the success of Tokkistar and become a global brand while also building up our event planning company Tokkidreams. Our desire is to start creating even bigger events for the masses and Houston fans alike. Not to mention continuing to spread the joy of kpop throughout the world.
