So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have loved everything about beauty since I was a child. I began as a professional in the beauty industry eight years ago in San Diego, California where I was born and raised. I started off in a salon as a receptionist and worked my way up as a stylist. I began to build my clientele while doing what I’ve always been most passionate about, making women feel and look beautiful. I left the salon to work with an agency as a mobile hair and makeup artist doing everything from bridal parties, events, bridal showers, baby showers to doing comic con, special effects makeup, tv personnel, celebrity hair and makeup, etc. I was dedicated to my work and became the top grossing and most requested artist for this agency. I’ve had many amazing opportunities and have worked alongside many admirable artists these past eight years, constantly learning and gaining experience.
I also grew a clientele three years ago doing eyelash extensions and eyelash lifts. I was blessed to have bookings every single weekend for hair and makeup through the agency and also on my own. All while being able to the work from home during the week doing eyelash extensions. In July of 2019, my son and I relocated here to Houston where my fiancé is from and I am slowly but surely beginning to rebuild my clientele here! It was not easy leaving what I had already built in San Diego. However, I have faith knowing as long as I am doing what I’ve always been passionate about, I can take that skill and passion with me wherever I go. I look forward to sharing that here in Houston!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel that anything having to do with beauty has always been a second nature to me. With hair and makeup especially, I wouldn’t say I really struggled to learn but I was always excited to learn a new technique to perfect my craft even more. I would say my biggest struggle was when I was learning to do eyelash extensions. I was used to a fast pace work environment doing only hair and makeup at the time. When I began to do lash extensions, it was a complete change of pace and it is such tedious work, requiring so much patience that made me want to give up right away! However, I would not allow myself to quit just because it was difficult to learn. If anything, that just made me more determined to learn and now I am so grateful I never gave in to a moment of weak-mindedness. Not giving up has now allowed me to learn another skill that makes women look and feel beautiful even without makeup!

I am a licensed cosmetologist specializing in bridal, quinceañera, commercial, television, stage, photography, celebrity hair and makeup. I do anything from very natural-looking, long-lasting makeup to very dramatic looks! For hair I do anything from soft waves, to classic old Hollywood hairstyles, to updos! Whatever look you want for your event, I can do! I am most proud of the image I have built for myself as an artist. I pride myself on my work ethic and being a perfectionist! I do everything I can to accommodate my clients and give them the best experience I can. Working alongside other artists for these past years, I’ve found something that sets me apart from them in this competitive industry is that I truly take the time to listen to my client’s wants and needs. I’ve seen time and time again when an artist has a vision in their mind and they just want to make it become a reality while forgetting to keep in mind the wants and needs of the client. Of course, there are times I have to be honest with clients if the look they want is achievable with their hair texture or length, etc. I hold my self accountable to make sure that the satisfaction of the client is my number one priority!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have plans to open up my own salon in the near future. I’m looking forward to having a place where clients can come in and get pampered for a special day/evening and feel relaxed while doing so. I mostly look forward to continuously building long-lasting professional relationships with clients!
