Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Alcoser.
Victoria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in 2010, interest in working with cakes with fondant. I started watching self-taught videos. I started my home-based business first with cupcakes and then I slowly started out with buttercream cakes. It took a lot of hard work to cover a cake with fondant, at least year to get it down. Just to learn how to frost a cake was hard. After I accomplished the cakes, that’s when I moved on to cake pops and custom cookies. I love what I do and feel rewarded when customers tell me how amazing everything was especially the kids.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been pretty smooth but there’s been a few hiccups. Especially when a cake does not come outright. Or if a wedding cake breaks right before the ceremony. Cupcakes spillover or cookies crack. It’s only happened a few times.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Bakery Cupcakery story. Tell us more about the business.
I bake and create custom fondant and buttercream cakes, cake pops, cookies and cupcakes. We do the occasional dipped treats, like Oreo’s and pretzels. We have pretty good selection of cupcake flavors which can accommodate most cakes as well. I’m proud of all my work. I think cake and cookie decorating is an art form. I went to school for art and although I didn’t finish, I like to express myself through all the decorating, with cookies, cakes, cake pops, fondant work and cupcakes. I’m not sure if I’m any different from any other baker out there. But I think what sets us apart from each other could be our own style of baking and decorating. You can see the difference.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say my customers including my sorority sisters. My sorority sisters are a huge part of my support system. Word-of-mouth is my luck without my customers, I wouldn’t have the customer base or support I have now. Hustle, hard work, dedication, blood, sweat and tears have paid off in both my business and life and I’m so grateful for that.
