Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Borrego.
Antonio, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started, just like most small business owners, by doing it as a hobby. Having a passion to really get the small details that a regular drive-through car wash wouldn’t generally focus on. I started detailing my own vehicle at the age of 17 and to be honest it began with a simple bucket, some car soap from the local auto parts store and a wash mitt.
I would spend hours outside washing the exterior and cleaning the interior until it was immaculate. A hunger for faster and better technique began building up and with that, I started to really dive into the knowledge behind detailing. Still only working with my own vehicles or those of my immediate family, I gathered experience and further developed my craft. Little by little, I started to acquire more tools for more advanced projects like removing stains from cloth seats or paint correction. Soon I’d have friends asking me if they could pay me to do the same for their vehicles. It has definitely been a journey with its ups and downs but nonetheless it has been amazing to carry out my passion for auto detailing. We’ve kept Pink Monkey Auto Detail part-time for four years and have recently made the big move to full time. I started washing my old 2004 Ford Taurus in my back yard and now we are servicing some of the nicest vehicles in the greater Houston area.
Has it been a smooth road?
Saying that the road has been rough would be an understatement by a long shot. Working full time and many times working overtime made detailing near impossible. I always want to perform to the best of my abilities and my work reflects that. Time just wasn’t on our side. At one point, we did have to put the business aside for about a year and would only detail when the time allowed it. That is one of the reasons why we are so grateful to have gone full time. From an early age, I remember my mother telling me “it doesn’t matter how much money you make if someone hated their job they would be miserable regardless of the income” and she was absolutely right. There’s a common quote that goes, “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life” and although running a detailing business does come with its challenges such as weather changes, competition and other factors, it is definitely something I get lost in doing. Its a passion and I always have a new canvas to work with or better yet a dirty canvas to work with.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pink Monkey Auto Detail story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a mobile detailing company. We strongly believe that a vehicles cleanliness can strongly impact the driver’s day. Think about it. In a big city like Houston where we are known for being one of the cities with the worst traffic in the U.S, a driver spends a great majority of the time in their vehicle. So just picture this for me. Wouldn’t you think that stepping into a clean vehicle with an impeccable carpet, a fragrance of your choice, a freshly restored seat, you go on to place your cup of coffee in what seems to be a brand new cup holder, you turn your radio on and the screen is just spotless and you finally drive off into what seems to be a missing windshield and then you realize its just that clean. Thats exactly the experience we want to give you.
Thats what we strive for. We are not just a business aiming to get you in and out in order to make a quick dollar. We fully stand behind our work and exhaust every option until the job is done. If you are looking for a detailer that knows and cares about the value of your investment and wants to provide you with a new perspective, a fresh perspective of your vehicle then that’s us! We are proud of the results we provide our customers anywhere from an exterior foam wash down to a paint decontamination and correction. We perform from just a regular interior vacuum down to cleaning every crevice in your leather seat and getting that fresh leather feeling like the day it was driven out of the dealership.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The auto detailing industry is evolving everyday. We have new technology now that we didn’t have just a few years back. Now don’t get me wrong there’s a lot of old school detailing techniques that new technology will never beat, but products are evolving and with that we as detailers are constantly learning and working to perfect our craft.
