Meet DJ $pace Ghost of RapCapDotCom in West

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ $pace Ghost.

DJ $pace Ghost, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I actually started out as a Go Hustler with Big Tho and created Go Hustler TV. Moving around the city as a Dj & producer, I started taking up & coming artists on the road with me as I would Dj major tours or on my own original production tours. As my name grew, I stayed in contact with many Houston city heavyweights and built up my network to start Live Media Agency w/ Chris Reze as well as RapCap Dot Com as a podcast & platform for rap nationwide.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road for me has been long and hard, but not complicated. I wake up every day focused & dedicated to my mission and goals. I started out at 19, was a Go Dj by 20… Had produced two songs for the radio by 22 and was one of the most popping strip club djs in the city with a residency at Dreams night club by 23. After leaving the club scene to Dj on the road, I moved to Vegas & LA for a few years and recently decided to move back to Katy to build up the local scene through the agency and the podcast.

Just keeping goals and making new ones has kept things fun and focused for me. I’ve worked many of the greats but none of it was easy, I wasn’t born into this game so I had to invest and build my own lane into the game and then mash… Clubs don’t always pay the full rate so I switched to strip clubs for more money. Artists can’t always afford beats so I found ways to get them paid and bring them exposure. Solving problems instead of being a problem has always helped make my journey easier on me and others around me.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Rap Cap started off as a podcast in LA. We’ve done episodes in LA, Houston, Atlanta & NYC, all hip hop capitols. We are just looking for more new artists to bring onto the show and we are building funds for a studio in Houston that revolves around the brand & platform.

Live Media Agency is a network of professional that me and my business partner have just built with and worked with over the years, so we just utilize our own personal resources to strengthen the Houston music scene and bring exposure and awareness to the up and coming artists we rock with. The agency is really just the rocket fuel to every idea me or my team has and we have helped many other local artists build their business, give back to the community or even shoot videos & record music. We are just here to help build the music industry in the city, from our perspective.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I didn’t do well in school, wasn’t entertained or into the lesson plans they had for me. I didn’t think I’d be into music like I am, I just worked at the mall and made money. I spent all my money on jeans, shoes, sidekick phones, simple things… not music or even CDs. Somewhere in High School, I started selling custom made mixtapes and formed a small music label called “SB Click” with my homies J Redd, Marquise, Mek & Henry. My goal was for us to make music mixtapes like swisha house. Our first show, while I was still in school was with Swisha House in Cypress then a block party with Big Pokey. We were off to a good start but the label fell apart during our college years.

Just thinking about this, I realized I had a thing for music & entertainment business before I even realized it. I just kept focused on my daily goals. I also went to Columbia College of Chicago for a year and dropped out when Pimp C died. I was in school for music business and wanted to come back to the city and get hands-on because I didn’t want anyone else I looked up to pass away while I was studying when I could just come in the game working hard. Plus, I was too poor for college, I still haven’t paid off that one year.
