Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Lockett.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for baking started at age seven. I jumped out on faith in 2016. After surviving a brain aneurysm, yes I am a Brain Aneurysm survivor!! I dealt with depression during my recovery. I struggled with sleep and would wake in the night and bake. The baking would take me to a “zen place” and I used my love for baking to help me out of that dark place. This is when I wanted to do what made me happy and truly gave me a purpose.
I would bake my family’s favorite desserts mostly pies using trusted family recipes. Perfecting them to make my own. The pain and depression was used as my motivation to live. I then realized I wanted others to experience the love I put into my desserts. It is truly rewarding to hear customers tell me how one of my pies helped someone that was ill, teachers take them as gifts to show appreciation and even the working mom that has taken several home and how the family raved about the taste and quality.
I truly love what I do, the passion and love for baking makes it all worth the hard work and time it takes to handcraft a pie. I know first hand that “pie makes everything better”.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth. Some bumps along the way. The hardest obstacle has been entering the wholesale business and major grocers.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Pie Lady story. Tell us more about the business.
The PIE Lady is a dessert shop specializing in pies made using ORGANIC and NON-GMO Ingredients. We take pride in handcrafting each pie. We make in house our signature flaky crust. We don’t use any preservatives in our pies. We bake in small batches to ensure quality. Our pies are scratch made and baked to order. We don’t shelve pies.
We are most proud of our commitment to quality and producing pies that are fresh, wholesome, scrumptious and reminiscent of what your grandmother would bake. Whenever you eat a Pie Lady pie you will know it is fresh and truly scratch made.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There will always be an industry for desserts. With all the new trends in “health consciousness” there will still be a market for those that truly want and know the difference in mass-produced quality pies and the artisanal quality of a scratch made pie.
