Meet Mac B

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mac B.

Mac, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I found myself always being the person that people would randomly ask to snap quick pictures of. I realized I was consistently getting good feedback on some quick shots I didn’t think much of in the moment. My mom has always been one of my biggest fans and supporters, constantly encouraging me to further my craft and expand within it. I realized a flame had sparked within me and I wanted to experiment with my creativity. It started out in small bursts, with high-school-me borrowing my best friend’s camera (@alivendwell) for weeks on end, spending hours taking and editing photos and truly starting to learn the camera. Fast forward to now, I’ve expanded my craft farther than I ever expected. I’m beyond grateful for the journey.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No road is smooth. I struggled with starting my own business at the age of 17 with no clue on how to self-run such a thing. My work blew up faster than I could keep up with, but I stuck through it and stayed consistent. Trust me, it gets easier with time.

Please tell us about Mac B Photography.
I’m a self-employed freelance photographer based in Houston, TX, although I do travel often (in and out of state) for shoots. I currently specialize in fashion and commercial photography, although I do a bit of everything really. I create a lot of different content for people, businesses, and brands. I’m definitely most proud of how far I’ve come and the reach I’ve grown in audience.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Well, this is an interesting question because nobody has really ever asked me anything like this. I spent a lot of time thinking about it, and I truly believe that most of my favorite memories involve my mother, family, and friends. No specific memory really sticks out to me, although when I was younger, my family owned a daycare. There were two summers where I helped out, and it was really fun for me because I was able to help out my family and put a smile on the kids’ faces. Plus, it was cool to be the oldest kid, and the field trips were always fun.
