Today we’d like to introduce you to Khadyajah Jenkins.
Khadyajah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I think my journey really started three years ago when I was a freshman in college. I always wanted to create a clothing line and a safe space for black women, and that’s when the idea of K’s Kollection was born. K’s Kollection is a lingerie line made by and for women of all shapes and sizes. But as far as creating a safe space for black women, I’ve always wanted to do that because we deserve it. We deserve to be seen and heard. Right now, I’m still in the works with that and I feel like I need to be some type of licensed professional, so I decided to get my Masters in Psychology and my Ph.D. in Clinical psychology. This will allow me to help and heal my community.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business and being a full-time college student it hard because I constantly want to focus on my business but I also know how important school is, and I need a good GPA to get into a Masters and Ph.D. program. So, it’s challenging but I’m always up for a challenge. Life is so short, so why not do what you want to do. Start the business, start the blog, start the YouTube channel, START FOLLOWING YOUR PASSIONS! You literally have nothing to lose but everything to gain. And if it doesn’t work out like you plan it, you can start over. You’re in control of your reality. You are the person living your life. Believe in yourself to the fullest extent! You are your biggest cheerleader.
Please tell us about K’s Kollection.
Currently, I’m a senior at Prairie View A&M University majoring in Agriculture with a concentration in animal and food science. Aside from helping empower my community, I have a love for science and a passion for animals. I’ve studied abroad twice to Limon, Costa Rica and San Cristobal, Galapagos. So, being a student is my full-time job and I’m a part-time business owner. K’s Kollection is meant for women to always feel beautiful in their own skin. My brand is rooted in genuine love and care for women. We deserve to feel and look our best always.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well-positioned for?
I feel like women are positioned for everything. Women literally birth life. We are so powerful and beautiful. Ladies listen, the world is literally yours! I know it comes off real cliche but it’s so true. You can have whatever you want in this life and don’t let anyone tell you differently. You are acquitted with EVERY tool you need to succeed. GO FOR IT!
