Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Osborne.
Jacob, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had worked in Corporate America for the last six years in company’s ranging from multi-country recruiting company to Houston’s largest Waterpark. At the time of making my latest career move to self-employment, the decision was made to be home to assist with our son beginning to go to school for the first time half days as the scheduling was not advantageous for either myself or my wife.
The following June, our son was born and I was able to stay home with my son and take our now oldest to school and pick him up from Pre-K.
Over the past year and a half, I have seen the market’s potential for growth open up as I took on more clients and have begun creating a sustainable business. I have experience and still experience the struggles that you frequently hear about self employment and pride myself on assisting my clients overcome the fears of Financial Illiteracy and Budgeting/Forecasting. I’ve gotten to where I am thanks to god and my devoted wife who has always been there to help me when I’m struggling and would not let me give up regardless of the struggles. My biggest piece of advice to anyone is to find a partner, whether a business partner, friend, family, etc. to lean on and bounce ideas off of. This has been the most valuable resource I have ever acknowledged and could not imagine succeeding without it.
Has it been a smooth road?
No. Anyone that tells you self employment has been smooth is either incredibly lucky or being shy about the valuable learning experiences struggling can present.
I have grown my client base monthly through off the clock searches and outreach and sacrificed financial freedoms that are easy to receive in the Labor Market. All for the belief that I would eventually reach a point where I have something to call my own. The Sweat and Financial Equity I put into this equates to time I could not have had with my family and I would struggle tenfold to spend as much time as I was blessed to have with my children in their early age.
The road will not always be rough is my advice. Plus you can appreciate the successes that much more when the past failures sharpen your skills and make you capable of greater successes.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Woodlands Reserve LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Woodlands Reserve LLC is a Bookkeeping/Tax Firm that handles small to medium-sized clients. We handle any and all industries as we currently service clients in the entertainment business all the way to home & office remodeling business. We also have clients from New York to San Francisco.
We specialize in Financial Literacy, Cost Accounting and Budgeting/Forecasting. We are also not like much of Bookkeeping firms as we have a more direct approach and look to take more of a hands-on approach to our clients. We cannot assist with the Bookkeeping unless we understand the business. If you are growing, as will our responsibilities within your company and our relationship. That is our goal is to be an invaluable part of all of our client’s success.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the feel of the Woodlands and how they are attempting to really revitalize Downtown Houston. Look back 5-10 years ago and Downtown was not a place you could not get younger workers, companies or businesses to migrate to because once the workday was over it was a ghost town. Recently there have been efforts to get Graduates or new hires to move closer to downtown and created a nightlife that was not as artistic and vibrant.
I was originally born and raised close to Detroit, MI so seeing the city move away from specializing in only O&G to Medical and other areas reaffirmed my belief that Houston will be one of the most important cities for years to come.
Traffic is the absolute worst, which I’m sure everyone agrees with. One thing I dislike the most about Houston outside of the obvious is littering around the city. The environmental protection agencies have been neutered in recent years and you can tell.
