Meet Jenny Fernandez of Luxe Houston Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Fernandez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was working at a family-owned business for 11 years, a meat market to be exact, I was really close to all my coworkers, so every time it was one of their birthdays, I always bought them flowers, or something small.

Well, that week was one of my coworkers birthday, so I decided to get her some flowers from the store, I wasn’t so happy with just flowers so I began looking for a way to make them look more appealing, so I grabbed a perfume box I had laying in my room, and I began to cut the flowers and form her initial, the next day I gave it to her, and she loved it! By the end of the week, I had two male coworkers asking me if I could make some for them and that’s how it started, of course at the beginning you have no clue, how they are really supposed to be prepared, but I took a few pictures, uploaded them on my Instagram and boom, I had friends messaging me if I could do more and more. From there on, it all began, I learned the whole ropes of being a florist little by little, and I dared myself to make an Instagram page. I’m very low key, I HATTTEEEE being out there, but for some reason it kept getting attention, and that’s how my business flourished. I was working a monotonous job for years, not knowing what I wanted in life, I made good money, but it just wasn’t what I wanted, once I started doing this, it’s like I knew this was it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has never been smooth for me, ever since I started, I juggled my full-time job plus this, which I called a side hustle at the beginning, not knowing it would grow this big, I literally had no sleep sometimes, but I managed to push through until I was able to quit my full-time job and pursue the floral industry full time. I ran through a couple of obstacles along the way, I lost many things, including friendships, time with loved ones, etc. I worked from a small room in my parent’s house, until I was able to move out, they say nothing good ever comes easy, but I’m still standing, and I’m still growing.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Luxe Houston Co. – what should we know?
We turn regular ol’ flowers into amazing arrangements, ranging from bouquets to our very popular flower boxes, which is what we are known for, our arrangements are VERY different from other fellow florists, we strive to be different, and unique, and thanks to the crazy requests from our customers, we end up with amazing results at the end, and have people ordering stuff that they see has already been made, from our page. This industry is very competitive, but what’s life without a little competition? I am most proud of how much we’ve grown in 6 months!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The sudden exponential growth of Luxe Houston Co. has been thanks to the big dogs in the Houston scene with their own small businesses. A few of them that pop up in my head are: @elscarfaceruben @aces_performanc @exclusive_dts. They trusted us and took us under their wing, supported us, shouted us out, and allowed people to see us. Without them, we wouldn’t have grown so much in so little time.
