Melissa and Chad, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The idea about opening Milan Home Staging came after being in the construction, remodeling and design business for 15 years working with many real estate agents and builders we found that there is a big need in the market for good quality and reasonable priced staging. In Houston market we found that there are either low quality and under-priced staging or high-quality and extremely expensive staging. Our idea was to create a company that could offer beautiful, exceptional, high-quality furniture and design for very affordable and reasonable price to serve our purpose, which is help builders, realtors and home sellers sell the house faster and for top dollar.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In any business, once you start it, the first year is the toughest year due to bulging so many blocks at the same time and trying to create a balance between expenses and income, the most challenging thing was to educate and help clients understand the needs and the importance of home staging, In a lot of established cities like New York, LA California even Dallas, Home Staging is very widely spread and very well accepted, in Houston for some reason some people look at staging as an expense rather than as an investment. On the other hand some realtors and builders don’t know that staging is a huge factor in getting the house sold faster and bringing a lot of time more money to the seller.
