Today we’d like to introduce you to Captain Marshum Sinegal.
Captain Marshum, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a young child growing up in Louisiana is where I fell in love with hunting and fishing. I used to ride my bicycle with my fishing pole and bucket in tow to the nearest lakes located in and around the surrounding areas of my hometown of Jennings Louisiana. I remember growing up watching fishing shows such as Fishing with Phil Broussard and always told myself that I want to be a fisherman like him one day. While serving in the United States Army (while station at Ft. Riley) I purchased my 1st boat at the age of 22, where I use to fish throughout the lakes of Kansas with friends and family. After years of service, I moved to Houston where I purchased my 2nd boat, which was a Bay Boat and began fishing and learning the Galveston Bay Complex. I was then introduced to fishing local tournaments through the Galveston Bay Complex.
I after having success in winning several local tournaments and taking out family and friends fishing, I discovered a passion of seeing the enjoyment and excitement in others as they caught either their 1st fish or their biggest fish, Throughout this period of fishing I came in contact and fished with several local fishing guides which is when I then learned the same pressure of tournament fishing which coincided with the same pressure of being a fishing guide, which motivated me to I turn my sights on becoming a Professional Fishing Guide. I later attended the Houston Marine Training Center where I obtained my accredited US Coast Guard License and begin guiding.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The toughest challenge in the business of guiding is getting your name and reputation out as a knowledgeable Fishing Guide within a pool of over 300 fishing guides/services within the Galveston Bay area alone.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Take-N-Drag Guide Service – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I’ve owned and operated Take-N-Drag Fishing Guide Service as a license Fishing Guide since 2014. I specialize in fishing mainly for speckle trout, redfish, and flounder. I guide up to four people to include families or friends throughout the Galveston Bay complex as well as Sabine Lake. As a fishing guide, I mainly focus on my customers having fun and laughing and see the fish as a bonus. I’m proud to be one of the few African American fishing guides on the entire Gulf Coast. I’ve had the pleasure of guiding numerous well-known athletes and musicians. I feel my customer service and the special attention I pay toward my customers in not only catching fish but having a great time which is what keeps me successful.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have always wanted my own Television fishing show and to continue to strive for that dream to come true. I have recently expanded my brand adding Capt. Sin’s Wholesale Seafood mainly selling quality live crawfish throughout the Houston area servicing local restaurants and the public.
