Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Guillory.
Devin “DVN” Guillory is an artist, songwriter, and audio engineer that is on the uprise. DVN was born in Lake Charles, LA in July of 1993. He was raised in North Lake Charles, arguably the roughest neighborhood in his city. As a youth, he was surrounded by violence, drugs, and poverty. Yet, he managed to steer clear and lead his own path to rise above the ills of his environment.
DVN was in dire need of an escape from his neighborhood and he finally found it at 16 years old. This is the point in his life, where he decided to pour his passion, pain, perspective, and drive into creating dope music.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth having comes easy… so with that being said… that’s an obvious no. When I left Louisiana for Dallas, I dove straight into my entrepreneurial dreams and immediately encountered things I’d never had to deal with before like finances, building a new network from the ground up, and just being unfamiliar with the new area. It’s been full of ups and downs, but within three years, I’ve launched my very own recording studio in Downtown Dallas (Skybox Studio). I’ve released a full project (The Flavor Pink) and gearing up to launch another at years end, and a list of other collaborations. I’m in a very exciting and blessed position, it’s been worth every second.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
After the realization of his true passion in life, he went on to develop a catalog consisting of a mixtape “Heartbreak Kid” (2013); an EP “Winter’s Remorse” (2016); and a multitude of singles (i.e., “Facetime”, “Wanna Be Down”, and “Plug Talk”). His last project, The Flavor Pink was released on Valentine’s Day 2019 and it received great reception from audiences across multiple regions (Louisiana, Texas, California, DC, Atlanta, Toronto, etc.). Since then, DVN has been interviewed by three media outlets and is working on two new projects.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the music industry moving towards a more independent based market. . . There will always be bigger companies but they won’t have the grasp on artist they’ve had in past years with so much transparency being created by the internet. Lives literally change overnight. We’re next.
