Meet Steven Kelly of The PARC in Sugar Land

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Kelly.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Steven. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was hired in August 2012 as the executive Director. I have been with the PARC almost 5 years. I have 15 years of work experience working for non profits. I started as a day camp counselor looking for a summer job and really enjoyed working with youth. I graduated from University of Houston with a degree in Kinesiology and shortly after that moved into a full-time position. My passion is working with youth and seeing them develop through programs such as youth sports, after school programming, and day camp.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I enjoy my job. The only struggle I have is what a lot of people in my field struggle with. Time. I have 2 kids that are now involved with their own activities that sometimes conflicts with activities that we offer here.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The PARC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a little unique in that we are a faith based recreation center. A non profit recreation Center. We are also unique in that we are a part of Sugar Land First United Methodist church and work in collaboration with the church. We offer youth and adult sports – basketball, volleyball, soccer, sports camps and clinics, exercise program, after school program, a summer day camp, and health and wellness classes. We are most known for our strong basketball program that we offer twice a year and our large summer day camp that is an 11 week program averaging 100 participants daily. I personally am most proud of the growth we have had in 5 years. We have tripled are overall participation and almost double our revenue. I think what sets us apart from other organizations is the customer service we provide from the part time level all the way up to our directors. Mostly our participation is returning families and a lot of the new families have joined us due to word of mouth they received from their friends.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The next phase is to team with other organizations to get more space. We are almost at our limit on space at our facility.

Pricing:

  • Youth Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer leagues $135
  • One week of Summer Day Camp $190.00
  • One month of after school program $270.00
