Dominique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been into hair. Wigs allow me to switch up my look constantly without it being permanent. In January 2017, I was laid off from MD Anderson when they had the big layoffs. While I was sitting at home looking for new employment, I had to do something to make additional income so I would start making wigs by hand for friends and family members for $50! After I realized I was pretty good, I started investing in my craft. I realized the sewing machine would be easier and quicker for me to get wigs finished. So I bought a sewing machine. I had never used one in my life but I was determined. I went from making wigs by hand taking 2.5 hours to making wigs by the sewing machine taking 45 minutes. This allowed me to get more wigs done in 1 day. Although my wigs are no longer $50, they are still affordable and are of great quality and craftsmanship.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road by a long shot, however it has been enlightening. I struggle with time management, spending quality time with my husband and three children and still making time for myself. I have a full-time position working for a hospital from home. My children are involved in a lot of extracurricular activities, and I help run a trucking business with my husband.

Lux’d Tresses by Dominique is a custom wig making company. We specialize in custom upart wigs, custom lace closure wigs and custom frontal wigs all at affordable prices. I also have premade wigs that usually fit majority heads sizes.I pride myself on being the most affordable wig maker in Houston while still delivering quality work with a quick turnaround. My wigs are known for being completely glueless. No glue, combs or straps are needed to wear a Lux’d Tresses wig. Because I measure each customer’s head before making their wig, it will fit perfectly. I pride myself in customer service. I listen attentively to what each customer wants and I deliver it. If a customer is not satisfied, I go above and beyond to fix it! However, my customers are pretty satisfied the first go around.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Entrepreneurship is NOT EASY. But with persistence, determination and God, you can do anything! I personally define success as setting goals and achieving them. You have to set goals continuously. Once you reach one goal set another. If you don’t reach a goal, look back at you what you did or didn’t do and figure out what steps you need to take to reach it. Numbers don’t lie. Keep track of everything you do, write it down. Write down your big accomplishments and small. It all adds up and means something.
