Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Lavish.
Larry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born on the 22th of September 1994 in New Orleans, LA and was raised there until relocating with my family to Houston in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. My mom was able to get a job here so we never went back home but most of my family still lives there. I try to go back when I can. I graduated in 2012 from high school, got my Associate of Arts at Lone Star and will finish up at U of H for my B.A eventually. I pretty much have always been into sneakers and fashion but everything changed in 2010, my 10th grade year of high school once I started working. I had no bills really so all money was going to shoes and clothes online, nothing from the mall- too easily accessible to everybody. I got really into this clothing brand Diamond Supply from one of my favorite rappers Curren$y wearing them so I started ordering everything online because people at school didn’t have it, this was before the malls started carrying them but eventually it became the wave for everyone, meaning I had to leave it alone. Fast-forwarding to 2013 thinking to myself how can I be the only person with something? I can make my own stuff instead of throwing money into other brands I can invest and build my own brand hence Lavish Club 94 being born.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth?? Not at all, the only struggles along the way have been life, naturally you live and learn. I work a 9-5 to survive and have extra money to put into what I’m passionate about; my brand and photography. It’ s all a risk but the biggest thing is never giving up and continuing to push forward, it’s a slow grind. Some of the biggest brands grinded for years before you heard anything of them so I’m going to keeping going until all I am doing is what I’m passionate about.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lavish Club 94 – what should we know?
Lavish Club 94 is my clothing brand started in 2013 because I wanted something I could have to myself. Lavish because I’m Lavish like my ‘AKA’ and Club because it’s my thing meaning I can make and do what I want with it, It’s not for everybody. It’s whatever I’m feeling or inspired by at the time; another form of expression for me really. I initially just wanted a few shirts for myself but the guy I went to that printed my shirts had a minimum for prints so instead of a few shirts, I got 24 and have gone on from there to hoodies, jackets, sweatsuits, women’s wear, etc. Everything is inspired and comes from something different; could be how I’m feeling, current events, music, movies really anything. I’m most proud that I’m still going. You never know everything isn’t a hit or instant success but it’s all about continuing to push forward. I would say I’m most known by the LC logo and what sets me apart is that I am me nothing else.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I love the chance to say my teetee Deniece (aunt) that passed away in 2013. She indirectly got me a Nikon D3100 and a MacBook Pro; since then I’ve been off the porch (meaning out there working) creatively with my brand and photography. My mother, father, family and friends but I would consider them family too; they’re my biggest supporters. Support really comes from all over and I’m thankful.
