Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiy Jones.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It started back in the 6th grade when I decided to stop eating beef and pork. My family and friends didn’t understand, but I knew that’s what I wanted to do. You can say, I was somewhat health-conscious at that age, but not quite, because I still loved eating everything else.
For the most part, I always had a painful menstrual since junior high and had an inkling that something was not right with my uterus. I was excited when the time came for my first women’s wellness health exam and then all my concerns would be answered, wrong. I never received a clear answer from my gynecologist during my yearly exam about why I had painful cramps or heavy menstrual. I was aware in my adult age of my mother, grandmother, and aunt having a hysterectomy or partial hysterectomy, but I did not connect the dots.
In the Spring of 2013, I had fallen to the floor at home and could barely get up to walk from debilitating cramps. My mother rushed me to the emergency room and after the exams, the doctor casually said, “you have three fibroids that have flared up,” and prescribes medication. The doctor did not give any advice, a plan or educate on what fibroids were or how to get rid of them. The three fibroids I had were between the sizes of a strawberry and a golf ball. From that year on, I made it my mission to research, study, learn and seek out a wholistic path to healing. Throughout my research, I learned that fibroids are not hereditary, only through the foods we inherit from our family, stress, products and many other factors to name a few. I am one of the 90% of African American women affected by fibroids by the age of 50 and I was 33 years old at time. My journey has created a community for women and young ladies seeking a natural approach with no clue about where to start the natural healing process.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My first challenge was battling whether to have a nonprofit or a social enterprise business. I was going back and forth with myself. Then, I finally had an ah-ha moment to go with a social enterprise. After all my research and mediation I felt I made the best decision because the social enterprise concept is in alignment with my mission and efforts to provide a local and global solution to women suffering from fibroids. The other challenge I had faced was how to coordinate my first annual 2K Walk in July 2018 after starting my business four months prior. The encouragement and support of my boyfriend gave me the confidence and push when he said “you have to start somewhere,” the walk was a success.
Please tell us about My Womb Wellness.
We are the first global, natural and multi-facet community that provides energetic analysis scans specifically for the uterus and ovaries to diagnose fibroids and heavy periods with underlining issues that lead to chronic womb conditions. Its non-invasive, no needles, non-radiation and 100% safe. Chronic womb conditions plague half the women and young girls around the globe who suffer daily that have no idea that its not natural to heavy period and it’s my mission to be Pro-Active with a Plan of Action to guide and support each person.
My Womb Wellness Social Enterprise embodies a solution to a problem while thriving economically through business. We combined business with for-profit energy and non-profit motives with the vision of offering affordable natural products and services locally and globally. We also have “My Womb” Sponsorship Program that is funded through donations and sponsors; where we give free uterus and ovary scans to young ladies in college. We thrive on creating an impact by providing support, education, resources, and a practical solution. Not only that, My Womb Wellness has provided access to one of the best Natural Health Practitioners around, she is a true gem; Dr. Fisher and Certified Wholistic Nutritionist Cindy Goodson to the partnership. Created by women for women.
What sets my company apart is partnering with my mentor Dr.Fisher to offer the scan to women. This scan is a gamechanger; it gives women clarity with a peace of mind to what is happening inside the uterus; we took out the frustration and guessing that most women complain about. Being able to relate to women suffering from a chronic womb condition and heavy periods gives me the advantage to connect. I’m living proof that you can heal your womb naturally without having surgery or taking medication. I’m not giving medical advice because I am not a doctor, I’m sharing my experience.
My most two proud moments are producing my second annual 2K Walk/Run this year; where we continue to break the silence of women’s chronic womb conditions; such as Fibroids, PCOS, Endometriosis, Ovarian Cyst and receiving the Global Diaspora Champion Award from the American Caribbean Chamber of Commerce.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be living next door to my cousins, in which we were all around the same age. We lived ten to twenty feet away from each other on the same street. I could walk across the grass to their house. The best part was no one else lived on the street; woods all around; in the country. Each house had a huge front yard and backyard where we played kickball, hide-and-seek- especially hide under the house, tag football, and mudpie fights. It was so much fun growing up with a big family.
