Meet Maria Tabush of Spoonful of Joy by MJ Tabush in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Tabush.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Maria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Guatemala City, got married and moved to Houston in 2011. Since I can remember, I had always love crafts and baking. I have degrees in graphic design and chef patisserie. You will find me always applying color and design no matter the media, (I’m passionate about Art & Design.) I work as a Graphic design freelancer and have a company through my company, “MJ Tabush Desings”. It’s a fusion of graphic design, pastry and cake decoration all in one place. I design and make unique cake toppers, favors and cookies.

As my family started growing, it became really difficult to keep up with work, so I began to limit the amount of work by reducing the number of orders I would accept so I could dedicate more time to my family.

I had always wanted to have a blog where I could share all my joyful moments and activities with family and friends back home and of course, to inspire moms like me. So in a nutshell, that’s how I started blogging.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, honestly I never thought It would take me so many hours to create a post from start to finish. Building an authentic and engaged audience has been also very challenging.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Spoonful of Joy by MJ Tabush – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
On the blog, I share my love for motherhood, homemaking, celebrations and travel! I am truly passionate about creating a balanced and meaningful life, a cozy home and inspiring others to do the same.

These are my favorite topics to blog about:

1. CELEBRATIONS
If you ask someone close to me, to say something I like doing, one of the answers would definitely be “she loves to celebrate everything”. I have not found a holiday, birthday or celebration which I don’t feel excited about.

2. Tips and Tutorials
I find myself making printables and projects for every occasion. I love making things for my family, I feel like it makes it more memorable and special. Lately, I have been posting meaningful and seasonal activities for kids that encourage connection and quality time.

3. Recipes
Most of my recipes will fall in the “comfort” category. Those which the whole family feels excited as soon as they smell them baking (most of my recipes are baking goods). Using spices like cinnamon are a most in almost all my recipes. I also have a love for fresh food, specially when finished with a squeeze of lime and of course recipes from my birth country Guatemala.

4. TRAVEL
We look for destinations and places were we can bond and grow as a family. We travel slow, and while we do have an itinerary with places we would like to go, we go with the flow. We much rather enjoy the moments, get to know the locals, try local foods and flavors so that can get back home fully recharged. As an adopted Houstonian, I also love sharing our favorite places we frequent around here.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity, I have learned so much about other cultures. Houston is also a great place if you enjoy trying new food.

I really dislike Houston weather. It has been almost ten years and I still haven’t gotten used to it.
