Meet Sarah and Ray Smith of The Houston Pod in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah and Ray Smith.

The Houston Pod was birthed from our common passion for communication and how vital it is for our community, society, and business. As a creative and innovator our co-founder, Ray Smith, has over 15 years of experience in creative writing and audiovisual technology. Likewise, his counterpart, Sarah Smith, has an avid passion for speaking and business strategy and development. From a young age, they both knew that they wanted to be entrepreneurs. As native Houstonians, they felt inspired by the technological advancement opportunity in Houston and decided to be the first to launch a full-service podcasting company in the city.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any business, there are unique challenges to being a podcasting company, especially due to the fact that podcasting has only been around for a little over a decade. The biggest challenge in our business is helping businesses and senior leaders understand the benefits of creating an online ecosystem for their brand, and how a podcast can be beneficial. To approach this challenge, we are committed to educating our clients on everything to do with podcasting: from editing and recording audio to marketing and strategy.

Please tell us about The Houston Pod.
The Houston Pod is Houston’s first full-service podcasting studio. Our company offers editing, recording, and marketing services to help start, manage, or improve podcast shows of all calibers, whether they’re launching or streamlining production. The Houston Pod is modern, hip, and aesthetically one of the coolest places in the city to converse on hot topics, educate your client base, and to get your message out into the world.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’ve always been an early riser. One of my favorite memories from childhood was coming out into the living room early on Saturday mornings to hear my Dad playing his acoustic guitar and singing. I was raised with a deep appreciation for music and artists. My parents are both Mexican and they raised me to be proud of my heritage, to be close to God, and that anything is possible if you are willing to work for it. They always made me feel as if I could be anything I wanted to be, and I always knew I wanted to own my own business. – Sarah Smith

One of my greatest memories was taking early morning walks with my grandmother. Along the way, she would pick up cans along the side of the road. Later in life, I’d realize she wasn’t picking up cans because she needed the money, she was picking up cans for the betterment of our community. This was one of the many things she did to inspire my passion for philanthropy. – Ray Smith
