Today we’d like to introduce you to Reyne Hirsch.
Reyne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 1997, I joined a little known but growing TV series, Antiques Roadshow. I was a gallery owner specializing in Fine Art, jewelry, and 20th Century Design. I spent 13 seasons as on-air talent with the show and from there, had guest appearances on CBS The Early Show and CNBC’s Treasure Detectives.
In 2009, I began hosting a weekly series on Houston’s NBC channel, KPRC called The Art of Collecting. Since then, I’ve had guest appearances on American Picker and host Ridiculous Ranches.
During my years working in television, I’ve been fortunate to also write for a few publications. I have worked with numerous media outlets creating content, or being interviewed by – which has created great relationships with many producers and journalists. I’ve taken those relationships and built a thriving PR & marketing firm working with other TV personalities, musicians, athletes and brands. I had help opening doors early on in my career, and its time I pay it forward.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working in TV and in PR has plenty of challenges. Houston is not the prime location for these types of careers, so I’ve spent a LOT of money traveling to interviews and client meetings that I wouldn’t have spent if I lived in Los Angeles or New York. Alas, it’s a small price to pay for living in the great city of Houston.
Also, you have to have pretty thick skin working in these industries. You get a lot of “NOs” before you get a “YES”. You have to learn to not take things personally…often. I had a mentor tell me long ago, for every NO you get, you are one step closer to the YES. It helps to keep a positive attitude.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
In my TV life, I’m known for hosting shows about luxury lifestyles and products. I’ve written books about collecting wristwatches, 20th Century Design and investment level antiques.
In the PR world, I work with professional athletes, national brands, TV personalities, and non-profits.
I find I am most proud of my ability to successfully juggle numerous clients and projects at the same time. Landing my clients on TV shows, or interviews in Forbes makes me happy.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think what has attributed to my success are a few things… Loyalty first and foremost. I’ve come on board at the beginning of a client’s career or a brand’s launch and worked with them to achieve goals greater than their expectations. For clients I’ve believed in, I’ve continued promoting them when they couldn’t afford to pay me, simply because I saw the bigger picture and wanted to help them get there.
The second would be determination. When I want something, I don’t let a NO get in my way. I’ll find a way to change the NO to a yes, or create another avenue to make my idea into a reality. Perseverance will take you places.
