Meet Ronal Meza of Bar Chefs Houston in South East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronal Meza.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ronal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m originally from Huejuquilla El Alto Jalisco in Mexico. My parents brought me to the US when I was nine, so that I could get a quality education and have a better life. The shock of a new country, a new language, and having to make new friends really took a toll on me emotionally. I became a very timid teenager, who couldn’t throw a basketball to save his life. Ha ha. All of the above, in addition to personal family affairs was just too much for me to handle: unfortunately, I turned to drugs and alcohol for moral support. The addiction almost killed me. I ended up in the hospital with ruptured varices and very little chances of making it through the night. As fate would have it, after a couple of surgeries and several blood transfusions, I walked out of the hospital and started my life from scratch. I began volunteering and became an active member of the A.A community. I got a job as a server. Eventually, I became a bartender (which has always been my forte) and the rest is history! Not many people get second chances, and when life is almost taken away from you, you realize just how precious life can be! Getting the opportunity to experience that life sober is truly a blessing to say the least.

Has it been a smooth road?
My business is fairly new, and advertising is mainly word of mouth. Starting a new business will always bring challenges, so I expect that. But I have a vision in mind, and I don’t plan on backing away. I have a select group of premium bartenders with years of experience who create quality concoctions. I still have a day job. I have amazing, supporting friends and most importantly a master behind the bar, my head bartender and hopefully soon to be business partner Ms. Michal Miller.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Being confident and being arrogant are very different. Nowadays, I realize that unfortunately many bartenders don’t differentiate the two. I’ve also noticed that anybody that has poured a beer or two is suddenly a mixologist. This is why I decided to form a small group of bartenders with a minimum of five years of experience who are friendly, genuine and truly enjoy their craft. We specialize in herb and spice infusions like our Rosemary Pink Lemon Drop, our Lavender White Lady or our English Apple Pie made with Rye whiskey and our special blend of Great British apples, cloves, cinnamon and assorted spices. I’ve always enjoyed cooking and bartending alike, so I decided to blend them together and here we are.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a melting pot of so many cultures, and it’s growing by the minute. The cost of living is low and Houston provides great startup incentives from the city and the state. We have fun restaurants with delicious food and trendy bars with amazing drinks. So, in short, yes! Houston is at the top of its game at the moment.
