Meet Karla Olmedo of KTO Marketing in East of Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Olmedo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Fifteen years ago, I started as the only Director of Marketing for a veterinary specialty hospital here in Houston. At the time, there was not much competition in town and my great boss trusted me to spear head the department. For nine years, I learned the ends and out of what it took to brand a product and service, created relationships and built trust while providing personalized service.

Then, I reached a plateau in my life and realized I needed to better myself. In 2017, I obtained my Master in Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership from the University of Houston-Downtown. I’ve held other positions as Director of Marketing within different sectors and finally decided start my own company, KTO Marketing, as a Marketing Consultant. I had gained so much experience within the marketing field and learned it was not the same anymore. Marketing had evolved with time and it was changing rapidly.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like everything in life, one has to work hard for what we want to accomplish. I’ve had bumps along the way, although, have felt blessed to have the right individuals in my corner. I’ve learned to trust the process, have patience, and continue to ask for guidance from our great Lord.

Please tell us about KTO Marketing.
KTO Marketing is small marketing firm which manages the planning of research, analysis, positioning, promotion, and media development for each account. We evaluate business sectors and analyze results. Generate business operations strategy and conduct marketing research to identify trends and opportunities. We consult on branding, positioning, communications and all marketing initiatives. All this leads to the development and implementation of a rebranding marketing strategy to fulfill objectives within each particular budget. Not all budgets are the same, thus, we specialize accordingly to each one.

What I’m most proud of is the ability to say I have fifteen years of personalized experience. Not a lot of individuals can say it. Too, the capability to give back and enable others to grow. What sets KTO Marketing apart is the ability to adapt to different cultures, deliver each objective according to the request while remaining flexible.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Lesson learned thus far would be to a bit assertive as needed. I’ve learned to ask for what I want at the same time, don’t be shy about it. You can not be in business.
