Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Conner.
Jerry, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
TPM was purchased by J. Platt Turner of Temple, Texas in October 1989. I was hired as Vice-President/General Manager. Having never been in this business, I had to learn each phase of the manufacturing process and depend on the staff that I acquired to help me operate the company. I learned a lot about investment castings from OJT and learned a lot about business from Mr. Turner. I acquired the business in October 1994.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth. We have many customers tied to oil and gas. When the price of oil drops, so does our revenues. We have experienced highs and lows, but have always maintained a profitable business.
TPM – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
TPM is a manufacturing company specializing in the investment casting process. We are able to make close tolerance castings to customer specifications using the lost wax process. We have also partnered with foundries in China and Taiwan to provide an alternate source for less expensive casting products with added value such as machining, assemblies and other types of castings.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was TPM being recognized in the industry by winning a casting contest sponsored by the Investment Casting Institute. Success in business provides many proud moments, including being able to assemble a first class management team.
