Meet Jatziri Barron of Jatziri’s Art in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jatziri Barron.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Sure! First of all I’m a visual artist, I am 23 years old, living for the last 6 years in United States, and I am Latina. I was introduced to the art world when I was 16, I remember loving my high school art classes but never thinking about it as a profession. At that age I was living in Mexico, there being a visual artist and wanting to live out of it is not normally encouraged by family or society.

Meeting the Mexican Artist Paola Martinez, an abstract artists from Guanajuato lead me to consider art as a profession.

I’ve been doing art ever since and expanding my knowledge and understanding in art.

I have recently opened a business for Mobil Painting Parties named “Painting with Jatziri” which is founded on the concept of creative entertainment for children, adults, and corporative events.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I was 17, my father who owned company in the oil and gas business was left in bankruptcy due to the high corruption in Mexico, and we lost everything. It was when my parents decided to come to Texas and build a new life. Leaving everything and coming to a new country with very few money was hard but we didn’t have anything else to lose. This hardship was really painful for me and I wasn’t able to express it other than in art. I didn’t want to make my parents feel bad or set a bad example for my siblings by showing pain, so I drew and drew until my pain and confusion was left on a piece of paper. Immigration forever marked my life and perception, it gave meaning and fuerza (strength) to my art… it definitely saved me from depression.

From there I haven’t stopped, I am now currently starting my own Mobil Painting Parties business named “Painting with Jatziri”, doing lots of private commissions, and soon to open my own art studio!

Jatziri’s Art – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well first of all that I am super passionate about what I do!

Secondly that I like to capture the essence of the people I portray in my artworks. In my events for example, I want people to not just have a painting party but have a whole experience like having a musician playing live while they sip and paint.

Secondly, in my art in general I wanna make people feel what I paint and that’s why they have to visit my studio or instagram! There nothing else like experiencing with your own senses.

Lastly, that I seek to create a big impact in my community by promoting unity, giving voice to others, and creating events that entertain, educate, and motivate others through art.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am the most proud in having the opportunity of working for the Witte Museum in San Antonio, TX!
