Meet Charles K. Sadler of King Garden in West Houston/Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles K. Sadler.

Over the course of two decades, Charles King Sadler has developed a practice for the care and restoration of landscapes that has resulted in his being sought after for work on properties across North America and consulted by top European landscape practices.

Charles began his career as a freelance illustrator, with a degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology, he applied his artistic talent to newspaper illustration for publications such as the Los Angeles Times and New York Times. Charles returned to school, SUNY-ESF on the campus of Syracuse University, to pursue master’s studies in Landscape Architecture, and he started his own design firm in order to apply his philosophy of horticultural care within the design aesthetic.

Charles has since gone on to work specifically on the training, care and restoration of landscapes on estates from Greenwich, Connecticut, to Toronto, Ontario, to Dallas, Texas.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a small business owner has often had struggles along the way. While the body of work our company has performed has steadily increased in prestige and price point, there are always seasons when the next project isn’t quite on the horizon. Having the faith to keep generating ideas and seeking new projects has been the key to sticking it out during leaner times.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
King Garden is a diverse landscape design and care firm, and even provides a landscape podcast and online courses for gardeners. King Garden recently opened an office in Houston, TX as a compliment to the office in New York to better serve special clients in the region. The founder, Charles King Sadler, is a certified arborist, expert in horticulture care and hand-pruning techniques, and a talented illustrator. This combination of skills and talent help our firm to stand out in terms of creating beautiful landscape design and caring for those designs and the designs of other master designers in the long term. The executive team of Charles and Katherine Sadler is committed to education as a component of their company’s mission. As a result, Charles is routinely sought after as a trainer and speaker all over North America. Our firm deeply respects the native plant and artistic traditions of the places in which we work.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston seems to be a vibrant city of dynamic growth and opportunity. While there are a large number of people, and by extension business offering services that may be similar, it is still a city in which the economy is growing, so there is room for new ideas and new talent. We have been able to get established here quickly, and we have networked with a number of successful business people here who agree it is a great place for entrepreneurs.
