Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvonne Cazares.
Yvonne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career in Corporate America as Procurement Manager in the oil and gas sector. I loved what I did but after my divorce I needed to be more available for my kids. I had always invested in Real Estate and done very well so I made the decision to transition and become a Real Estate professional. The transition had its ups and downs but I did have some experience. I am a very detailed person who is good with contracts. Those 2 things are very important in the this world and you have to be able to sale. I’ve now been at it for 6 years and have been fortunate to be a top performer wherever I’ve been and now I have a wonderful team. I consider myself blessed.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anytime you start a new career you are going to have some bumps along the road. There was a huge learning curve and no matter how prepared you think you are nothing teaches you more than experience. There would be people who would try to take advantage of me so I had to be a fast learner to protect myself and my clients. Also, your pay based on sales so if your not closing you make nothing. There was a time early in my career when I was starting out and I had hired a nanny to help with my kids only to have to let her go a few months later because a big deal fall apart.
I always preach to my team you really have to prepare yourself to be successful. Create good habits, set goals for yourself, don’t compare yourself to others, and keep your integrity. These are all very important. There is enough real estate for everyone and as long as you stay focused and dedicated you can do well in this business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Monarch Team – what should we know?
I lead a team of 5 wonderful agents! All of them happen to be women but it wasn’t planned that way. The Monarch team serves all real estate needs. We work with Hedge Funds, Banks, Investors, and the normal buyer and sellers. We do everything but we all specialize in our own thing. I personally specialize in foreclosure and distressed properties. These properties are much more complicated than traditional properties but I find them more rewarding. Getting a deal done that others can’t or helping someone out of a tough situation brings me personal gratification. Sometimes I ask myself why I take on these files because they can be extremely complex but when I see the appreciation in my client’s eyes after I help them it reminds me that it’s not all about money.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I actually did not have a mentor through my process. It took some trial and error to get where I am. My recommendation is to find a Brokerage or a Team that can help share the knowledge and provides one on one training. With that said, I am always looking for motivated agents to join the Monarch Team and we are not limited to women only.
