Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business always has its challenges. Our business is no different than any other in that we continually try to keep up with new marketing ideas and social media. We have, however, been very fortunate to have a number of loyal, long term clients over the years.
One of the bigger challenges we have faced is the change in the photography industry. When we began our business, in 1989 we were shooting film. We had to make the transition from shooting film to digital years ago which had a significant change in our production workflow. When we were shooting film the post shoot production was mostly handed to a photo lab. Now, the post shoot work is our responsibility. The process is a little more time consuming for us than it was before. However, shooting digitally enables us to do things that we could not do with film and as a result, we deliver a better product.
Please tell us about Kolanowski Studio.
Kolanowski Studio is a corporate/advertising photography studio. We are a “couple” of photographers who work together as a team. The type of photography project that we are shooting determines who is behind the camera and who is the assistant. Greg handles all of our product, still life, and architecture work and Kim is the lead on any project that includes people. Our client list includes law firms, real estate companies, furniture companies, hospitals, home builders, design firms and more.
The thing that makes me most proud and, I think, sets us apart from other photography groups is that we’ve been told countless times that we are easy to work with, dependable and always delivery quality work.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Kim – getting my first Mickey Mouse camera when I was about six years old.
Greg – Snow days in Pennsylvania when all of our neighbors, kids and adults, would spend the day, and night, sledding down the long hill in our back yard.
