Thanks for sharing your story with us Darryl. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all boils down to dedication, persistence, and most importantly—PASSION. I always knew that the passion of photography and digital editing was always there, but I just had to act on that intuition. Regardless of the downfalls, the benefits far outweighed the consequences. Even though I had to give a little by offering free sessions, I knew I had to solidify my abilities to become that iconic person for having the best to offer. All in all, I give 110% in whatever I do—whether its photography, dance, digital editing even down to learning from previous mistakes and using that as building blocks for my future success. With life’s ups and downs to showcase my perseverance through everything, I still rose to the occasion and overcame the obstacles.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What is smooth? Not at all! But anything that is smooth and perfect concerns me about what the outcome would be like. I like to think of myself—in the words of Robert Frost—seeking “The Road Not Taken”. I live life like everyday is a challenge because with challenges comes great rewards. Many entrepreneurs fail because they want to see instant success and overnight glamour; however, I’m a realist—I know that success comes with hard work, sweat, tears, and failures but it’s not how many obstacles you’ve overcome, but what have you learned to overcome those obstacles so you won’t get trapped again. Yes, I’ve had limitations like improper equipment, non-existent clientele, very limited knowledge but ‘“mama ain’t raise no quitter!” I continued to grind and promote myself and plant those seeds because I knew that one day, rainy days were coming to bloom and blossom all my seeds I’d planted.

I’m more than just a photographer—I capture those life-lasting moments that means the world to my clients. I set in motion those indescribable memories that my clients for cherish for the rest of their lives. I specialize in turning those special “spur of a moment” memories into a digital keepsake. I love capturing weddings, engagements, fashion, family portraits, events, and many more.
My quest to expand my horizon has provided me the opportunity to delve into open my second business, ‘D.Hinds Designs’ where I design logos and several other graphic designs for individuals and for business. I can say I have learned a lot through my short, growing career. I have learned that people are more than just dollar signs—they are my lifetime clients and making their everyday life into keepsakes that they will keep forever is what gives me my motivation to continue doing what I do. Most of all, doing it at affordable and comparative rates and with such passion are the main focal points that set me apart from everyone else.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Granted, most opportunities doesn’t just fall from the sky, so some work is required. I feel that Houston bequeaths the opportunity to start many businesses and/or entrepreneurship, especially with helpful resources such as Voyage. However, it is up to the individual/corporation to take advantage of those opportunities.
