Delisa’e, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an 18 years old Senior in high school, passionate about Health and Beauty I’m a Makeup Artist, Fashionista, Cosmetologist, and Owner/Founder of DK Beauty. I started DK Beauty because I really developed a passion for makeup leading me to want to use my talent to do what I love. My dad has always pushed me to run my own business because he himself owns multiple businesses. I knew I wanted to take my business to the next level so I recently debuted my Lash Line on January 2nd called DK Minks The Luxury Collection!
Has it been a smooth road?
Some struggles along the way were finding the right eyelash vendor, funding to start my lash line and trying to take on too many things at one time my mom would always say we were the “jack of all trades and master of none”. I would tell young entrepreneurs to focus on your goals, believe in yourself even when no one else does, don’t worry about likes on social media and just go for it! Set a goal and stick to it, have a business plan, research, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there post 100 times if you have to no one is going to believe in your business as much as you. Move in silents don’t blast something before it’s official! “your more likely to achieve your goals if you keep them to yourself”. Don’t get lost in the sauce stay true to yourself and be consistent.

I am a self-taught Makeup Artist. I am creative and artistic I’m known for wearing big dramatic lashes and my makeup looks. I specialize in glamorous natural beauty services and my Luxury Mink Eyelashes I take pride in providing natural high-quality products. What sets me apart from others is that I stand behind my product, I have integrity with every order I send a personalized note and I feature my customers on my Instagram page. I want my customers to feel like one big family because we all share the same love in beauty I don’t just sell eyelashes I educate my viewers on eyelash application, eye shape, customization of false lashes, and proper cleaning for reuse.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
If you don’t have someone close to you, I would say find someone on YouTube you relate to who inspires you and has experience. Learn from other people’s failures don’t be afraid to jump out there, meet new people, ask questions. My family and YouTube has really helped me there is a saying “it’s not what you know but who you know” so go to different events that relate to your business and branch out always keep a business card with you and use social media.
