Meet Ana Salazar of Byanasalazar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Salazar.

Ana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Everything started four years ago when I moved to Houston. I am Venezuelan, specifically from a beautiful Island called “Margarita Island.” I grew up surrounded by beaches and sunsets. I attended two years of University in Venezuela. However, I had to leave my career and start all over again here in Houston. Today, I am thankful that my family and I had the opportunity of moving to The Woodlands.

As soon as I came to the USA, I focused on getting better in the language. That is why I got my first job at Dunkin Donuts. After that, I enrolled in college, and I kept looking for ways to get better in English, and to earn my degree. Moreover, I was working a lot, so I needed to find something to do that I really enjoy. That’s is when I came out with the idea of a blog.

I created my blog as a hobby, something different from what I was doing. I discovered that I enjoyed writing and that I do it smoothly in Spanish. My challenge is to write in English, so that is what I focus the most.

I write about places to go, things that are going on, or even just because I enjoy a topic. My goal is to get better at it and that readers enjoy my writing.

Today I am a full-time student, part-time employee in retail, and part-time blogger.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never a smooth road when you leave what you know as “home” and to start all over with your life in a different country. After I decided to start my career again, I switch my major twice. It took me a while to discover my passions. I think that the biggest obstacle is understanding that you are not who you were yesterday, and life is going to take you to different ways until you discover your new “you.”

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I do not see my blog as a business because it is something that I like and enjoy to do. It is pure entertainment and passion. I am the happiest person if I have two views or 10. I feel proud when I received comments of readers waiting on my next post because they enjoyed the topic.

I write about things that I am concern about, such as sustainability or even love. However, I’m creating more content for Houston explorers. I’ve been working out some ideas, and I’ll be writing more about places to go in Houston. Writing makes me forget about everything, and I think that that’s what sets me apart from others. Later I would like to develop more skills, write some articles for magazines or maybe even publish a book.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe in myself. There is nothing more important than that. Believe in what you love, what you do, and that you are capable of anything. Everybody has something to say, so I trust in what I am doing and put some drops of love to it, that way it will come out as something beautiful.
