Meet Aniyah Davis-Alix of Love’O’Food in East Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aniyah Davis-Alix.

Aniyah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I lived most of my life in Kaiserslautern, Germany. I’m what they like to call a “military brat”. There, I started my culinary career at the young age of 15. While finishing high school, I worked in a Turkish restaurant. There is where my love for unique and bold flavors began. After moving to the United States and graduating from college from the Art Institute of San Antonio, I entered the fast paced culinary world. I worked in countless bars, restaurants and hotels where I developed my craft and style as a chef.

After having my first son, I decided to leave the demanding life of a kitchen chef and make a drastic switch to the field of education. Although teaching was nothing I ever planned to do, it was the most enlightening and rewarding few years of my life. After becoming a mother of two, I decided it was time that I return to my passion for food.

Has it been a smooth road?
Over the years, cooking became effortless to me. However, working in the industry was very hard. I was always the youngest chef in the kitchen, so coworkers with seniority would always doubt my skills. I took that and used it to fuel my fire. I moved from prep stations to various line cook positions, on to Banquet Sous Chef, working for very high profile clients. Here is where I feel I learned the most. I was even blessed to create my own menu, as Head Chef of a local bar in San Antonio.

Please tell us about your work.
Today, I specialize in putting my own spin on culinary classics, as well as serving up gourmet street foods. I am known for my decadent pasta, lavish egg-rolls, and BOLD sweet & savory flavors. Myself, my husband and our close friends & family are the core of Love’ O’Food. We are eager to share our skills and love with the city of Houston. With a limitless menu, we strive for great customer satisfaction and culinary excellence.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the years, we plan to expand our brand. We plan to expand from catering and open a small establishment and venture into the world of food trucks. We also want to expand our community outreach and develop a non-profit organization to give back to the city. I have recently started a blog and YouTube channel (called CookingFiyah with ChefAniyah) displaying my life experiences, in and out of the kitchen, as well as providing short cooking tutorials for easy homemade cooking!
