Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristan Cole.
Tristan, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well my name is Tristan Cole and I’m a singer/songwriter. I’m what you call that nice boy next door with bad boy charm. I come from a very musical family so it’s just always been in my blood.
As a youth, I had grabbed the attention of both Lou Pearlman, CEO of Transcontinental Records (responsible for signing N’ sync, Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears) and Christian” Dio” Diodatti, world renowned DJ and CEO of Caliber Records. (Dio has done remixes for Michael Jackson and Mary J. Blige among others). Through business relationships these music moguls I was able to meet and work with such people as Andrea Martin (song writer/voice coach. Credits include Whitney Houston and Mariah Cary), and Glenn Douglas Packard (choreographer for Britney Spear and etc). Since then, I’ve also worked along side Jam Artis (Bruno Mars’ bass player) on his solo album, which was given major praise by Bass Magazine, Bruno Mars, and Randy Jackson. In addition to that I’ve worked with Grammy nominated producer: Haskel Jackson, as well as Jacob Colon and Nervous Records’ releases of “Sweat” (which made it to the top 100 house/dance charts for two consecutive weeks) and “Gonna Get It.” Aside from these collaborative projects, I’ve gone on to release two EP’s, a Christmas record, and my single projects: “Out of Time”- dedicated to suicide prevention, “Body Shots”, “For You”, and a unique rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”. Stay tuned for my sophomore EP coming out mid 2020.
Some of the publications, venues, and websites I’ve had the privilege to be featured in include Buzzfeed, MTV-U, The Canadian Music Festival, Top 40 Radio, New York Fashion Week, The Hype Magazine, DNA Magazine, Hotel RL, Kokane Music Blog, ThisIs50.com, Black Dragon Live, Jamsphere, and The Carolina Music Festival to name a few. Lastly I won ‘Best Male R&B Artist’ for the Carolina Music Awards, partnered with the Sound Affects charity foundation, and opened for Grammy Award Winning artist, J. Cole.
Has it been a smooth road?
I always strive to remain positive, but life as an entertainer hasn’t always been tulips and daisies. This industry is a tough one, full of ups and downs. Some days you feel like you can conquer the world, and other days can be pretty tough. Nothing in life is guaranteed and the entertainment industry is constantly moving and evolving. To be successful and stay relevant you also have to learn to move and evolve as well and stay consistent constantly. I’ve def had my fair share of struggles as having any artist. I remember sometimes having to sacrifice money for bills to pay for production or marketing. At times in the past I also had to sometimes sleep on friends couches. Sometimes I didn’t know where my next check was going to come from. My family has always been there for me, but I didn’t grow up in a wealthy household and they haven’t always lived nearby. I had to go through vocal surgery a few years ago due to health related issues, which I’m pleased to say have made a full recovery from. Something most people don’t know is I also went through a hard divorce around the same time. I’ve had people cheat me out of money, lie to me, stab me in the back, and I’ve heard way more no’s than I have yes’. But I’m a fighter and I’m a survivor. Life in general is a roller coaster ride but its all about what you make it. I actually am thankful for the struggles because its taught me who I am and how to be that much more grateful for the triumphant moments. Embracing the struggle and letting it strengthen you is priceless. I’m not perfect.
I’m very much still a work in progress. I make mistakes as do we all, but I’ve learned not to be scared of those mistakes. Mistakes are there for the learning. I am not yet where I want to be as an artist, but I’m on the right track and have a great team behind me who holds me accountable and wants me to succeed. One of my favorite quotes is from the great Rocky Balboa: “It ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” Never give up on what you love. And don’t take no for an answer.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have a huge passion for entertainment in general and I love to stay well rounded as a singer, song-writer, actor, model, and dancer. What I’m most proud of and what sets me apart is my work ethic, tenacity, and consistency. “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do love Houston, but honestly in today’s world with so many online outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, YouTube, and etc., You can pretty much make it anywhere with the right content, know-how, and marketing dollars.
