Meet Johnny Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Green.

Johnny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since I was a little boy, I’ve been into the visual and performing arts. I dived head first into the art scene when I was in elementary school at Burrus Elementary, where I received my first paid commissioned drawing and was introduced to The Glassell School of Art in the Houston Museum District where I competed and won a scholarship to study at this amazing school for a few semesters. I went on to compete in The Regional Scholastic art and writing awards contest and won the silver key for my artwork. As the years went by I decided to hop into the social media realm to display my work and connect with more artists and art admirers. Twitter was my first choice.

2013 is when the name Jaylee1103 was born and the rest is history, from Instagram to Facebook. I’m honored and proud to be able to say my work has gotten the attention of celebrities such as The Power Rangers cast, supermodel Tyson Beckford, SWV, Tony Todd, Dee Wallace, Fairuza Balk, Jamie Lee Curtis, James Jude Courtney, Mj Rodriguez, Billy Porter and the list goes on. I’ve also had the opportunity to travel to Georgia as a Featured guest artist at Camp Marimac now known as The Camp, which is a fan event by Camp Marimac and Atlanta Movie Tours to showcase & bring together featured artists, vendors, and actors from The Walking Dead.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road getting to where I am now in my career. Suffering from anxiety and depression I hit rock bottom during my sophomore year in college. I truly lost myself during this time. My weight spiraled out of control. I lost relationships… I lost myself. My love for art begin to suffer as well. It got to a point where I wanted nothing to do with art anymore, the one thing that I loved and has always been my best of joy, I neglected and without my art, I felt I was nothing and as a result, I tried to end my life. I made it simply because God showed me that this is not the way my story is supposed to end; there were more chapters that I must continue to write in my book of life. I did eventually find my way back to my best of joy… My art. And here before you, Johnny “Jaylee” Green stands as a living testimony today that things will get better.

Please tell us about your work.
My business name is HeART by Jaylee. My motto is HeART is love, HeART is life. I’m a mixed media pop culture/Horror pop artist that’s known for creating vivid portraits of TV/Film characters, musicians and other subjects. What I’m most proud of is that HeART by Jaylee has inspired so many people. What sets me apart from others is my versatility, I don’t have just one specific style of art to display and sell, I love to give my viewers something different to look at every time they see my work. Always remembering to create art from the heart.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I embrace all the bad luck simply because the grass is always greener on the other side. Without any of my downfalls, I wouldn’t be the man And the artist that I am today! It can’t rain all the time.
