Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Comer.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a child, I would always assist my grandfather while he was barbecuing. However, I never thought of owning a barbecue business. Later in life, I was an employee at a local company here in Houston. My Supervisor and I would always talk about barbecuing and the many barbecue competitions he had entered over the years. I was not aware of the influence that he made on me at the time. Later I decided to step out on faith and chase my dreams. I didn’t know how I was going to start. I didn’t have a barbecue pit or anything to start a barbecue business. I sold my car, bought a truck from an associate and a barbecue pit from a Craigslist seller and that’s how Say Amen BBQ was born.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road, I’ve had many trials and tribulations. I’ve had trouble with effectively marketing my products, building clientele and finding a consistent spot to sell my products. However, I continued to overcome with God’s grace.

I own a barbecue food trailer. We sell traditional Texas barbecue, southern fixings and desserts. Our best sellers are Smoked Brisket, Smoked Ribs and Homemade Beef Sausage. I’m most proud of building something that can provide for my family and I. What sets me apart from the rest is the time and care that I put into preparing my barbecue.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the near future, I plan to open multiple Say Amen BBQ food trucks. I also plan to continue serving Houston at many community events.
