Meet Amy Hartmann of RE/MAX Experience in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Hartmann.

Amy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a teacher for 10 years. My husband and I also ran a business consulting company that required him to travel quite a bit. We decided that we wanted to start a business that would keep us closer to home but still give us the opportunity to help small businesses grow. My brother was already working in real estate, so we decided to partner with him and make it a whole family business. Real Estate was the perfect choice because each Realtor that walks through our doors is running his or her own business. My passion is working with agents to help them grow their businesses. My classroom experience translates well to the world of coaching & training business owners.

Through the work that I have done with the agents in our office, I realized that not all Realtors have the opportunity to have the kind of support that we provide. The real estate business can be very difficult and the training that you get before becoming a Realtor really doesn’t prepare an agent to run a business and make a steady income. Anyone who becomes a Realtor does so to have freedom and flexibility to set their own hours while still providing a great income for their family, but the reality of the market doesn’t often fit that dream if an agent doesn’t have the business support that they need.

I decided to start an online coaching business under my own name. I started that business initially to coach Realtors across the country on branding and marketing. Over time, I have expanded that business to coach other small business owners that have a local audience.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The start of every business has its challenges. We have established a very different brokerage that is agent centric instead of broker centric. That is unusual in the industry. Many agents hesitate to believe us when we say we do not compete with them. We also bought a Franchise with a global brand. We wanted the brand recognition, but we function like a boutique brokerage, so that has also been a challenge to explain as well.

Most people see RE/MAX and make assumptions about who we are and how we function. Independently owned and operated really means something when it comes to our brokerage since we have a very different approach to real estate.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about RE/MAX Experience – what should we know?
What we are known for is coaching, educating, and supporting our agents. I am proud to have established a brokerage that attracts excellent agents that collaborate with one another. We are a family owned business and our agents, owners, and staff all feel like family. I am most proud that we have created something different in this world of real estate. We do not compete with our agents, instead, we partner with them to create real growth. I really want each of our agents to have thriving businesses and that has been my mission since we started this business 3 years ago.

In my coaching business, I am proud that I have been able to take the same great support and training that we provide to the agents that are members of RE/MAX Experience, and offer it to agents around the country that do not receive the same level of support and training at their own brokerages.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion and persistence (grit)
