Meet Lauren Poindexter, Burvell Williams III and Brian Clark of The Konnection Investment Group LLC in Central Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Poindexter, Burvell Williams III, Brian Clark.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lauren , Burvell , Brian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We all started out in their respective fields interested in real estate and investments. Connecting through our joint projects, we decided to team up and create an investment group that would bring together individuals to build wealth through real estate investing. Hence the name “The Konnection”. We primarily target the inner urban areas with a goal to revitalize and invest in communities largely underrepresented. We knew it was important for these communities to see investors who looked like us giving back. Our grassroots efforts, getting out in the community, meeting the people, learning their stories, addressing their needs, and being fair is how we approach our acquisitions. The investments are more than just the numbers; it’s about the people in the homes.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth? Oh, no, absolutely not! When we first started rehabbing homes, we had a situation with a nightmare contractor. We were issuing the payments after each phase of the project was completed and he was stealing the money and not paying the subs. We had to roll up our sleeves and put sweat equity in the home to get it to completion. Ultimately, we ended up leveraging more debt than we accounted for and it was a break-even. That experience taught us to have faith in our own abilities and GC the projects ourselves. It’s  just not enough to have a general knowledge of homes. We’ve paid a lot of hands on tuition to learn what we know now.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The Konnection Investment Group LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
Our team brings together individuals and high-quality opportunities to build wealth through real estate investing. We specialize in securing properties, the negotiations, financing, construction and resale. We find people don’t have the time to do the necessary leg work and research needed to find properties with good returns. We bring those properties to our clients and manage them from beginning to end. I think having vetted numbers, a thorough proposal, and clear concise goals is what our clients like. There isn’t a lot of confusion or superfluous language in what we present. “This is what we are proposing, this is your potential return, and this is the evidence that supports that.”

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We see areas in Sunnyside, OST Corridor, Third Ward shifting in a way that’s bringing more retail and businesses in this area. It’s proximity to downtown and the medical center is what makes it so attractive.

Houston’s development in the urban market is growing tremendously. We see the changes in the rebranding and renaming of the areas we work in. We want the natives in those communities to have a voice in that change.
